Excellent walk from Westnewton The paths mark on OS map take some following. Under three hours to bag. The view at the trig makes it worth while.

Along ridge from Kilham Hill. Nobody met on the hill, but there was a hunt meet in progress over to the west, so not a bad time to be here. Easy terrain

Followed the path from The Staw to the corner of the field. Lots of Moooo loitering at the bottom of the field so made a tactical approach to keep out of there eye line.

A good walk to a good viewpoint and no unreasonable idiotic landowners encountered! Parked at the Car Park at Westnewton and followed the bridalway west past The Staw farm and then south west before it rises up between Mid Hill and Staw Hill. Almost at the top of this rise the track divides, about 10m up on the left fork is a way marker, however ignore this and take the right fork over the moor and down the otherside traversing through deep bracken via any number of cattle traces. Just beyond a tiny disused quarry is a gate that gives access to the SW slopes of Longknowe Hill. Fantastic views in all directions.

Parked with permission in yard at Thompsons Walls farm - no problem. Followed FP/track SW to find gate behind unmapped copse (NT867303) onto track up Haddon Hill. This joined FP at NT870298. Followed this to valley head at NT873297 after which easy grass slope to summit. No bracken.

Parked near the farm at the end of the public road. Followed public footpaths onto access land then up to trig. Good view. On my return to the car I met the same pathetic gentleman as Borderer. He was very unhappy - something about needing to ask permission to park near his property. He took mobile phone photo's of my cars registration plates, presumably to intimidate. It didn't.

Parked just south of the ford and walked to the gates of Thompsons Walls farm before following the dry stone wall south east directly to the pillar. Scenic views spoiled somewhat by a pompous public school farmer who caught up with me at the pillar slating me for not using the official path from the south despite being it flooded. Appeared to have a problem with people on his land despite it being in a national park. Tried to be polite but though about pulling him from his quad. Unfortunately my car was parked near to his farm so took the public footpath back.

Second visit. For GPS reading and updated photographs. SITE VISIT: Approached from west. Parked by public road end at NT868305 just before barns. Route keeping left of farm buildings, across burn and straight up hill between two parallel fences. Open grazing top on unrestricted access land within Northumberland National Park - the Southern English 'squire' who runs this area needs educated on this! Pillar in good condition. Spider centre OS centre plugged with tar. Flush bracket faces northeast, ~54. Vented through SW sight hole, NE breaking open. Full 360 panoramic view.
