Detoured off Moray Coastal Path. I'm glad I did as this is the most interesting thing around between Kingston and Lossie (although the tank traps and pill boxes are not bad), I'm sorry I never saw this with its hat on but an interesting shaped pillar with spider intact.

Trig Point: Lossie East Terminal Trig itself is in good condition. The iron cap is slightly damaged but over all not bad.

Revisit for photographs and GPS reading. My 1987 log contains full historic details of this pillar. SITE VISIT: Overall approach from southwest. Parked by north side of road at NJ306348. Followed mapped paths and tracks through woods. Lossiemouth block shaped pillar in good condition, completed with pitched iron lid. Undeneath its hat, the spider retains an OS centre cap with shallow engraved letters. Flush bracket faces NNE, ~30°. No sight holes apparent. Limited open outlook to south through trees. Photographed 9/08/2016, GRP. LEVELLING: On my return route I bagged levelling flush bracket G276 at Nether Unthank. Although never established, it is thought that G276 is tied in with the Lossiemouth Base given that its number is several hundred lower than any other marker north of the central belt other than G275 its destroyed partner near the west end of the Base.

Log #186. Scenic route via Binn Hill which is highly recommended. The view from the ridge extends right along the coast from Lossie, over the firing range, and to Kingston and Spey Bay to the east. Aside from some chunks missing from the metal hat, the pillar is in good condition and has been logged as such. I had a look under the hat to check the spider, but couldn't quite get it high enough to have a proper look. I was a little worried about dropping the hat, so didn't press the issue. Enjoyable walk back via the western edge of Binn Hill. [ExP-152/MiP-4/Rev-2/BM-12/IS-13/Other-3]

Last of a long day. 6 mile round walk to this one but worth it as it's very unusual with a pointed metal "roof" (with a few chunks out of it), notwithstanding the fact it's square and not tapered. The most unusual I've seen to date anyway. Bit dark to appreciate the views though so that's why I've given it a 5.

Unusually shaped non tapered square section construction. Scotlands lowest surviving primary station. One of ten such untapered pillars built without flush brackets in 1936 for the measurement of the Lossiemouth Base. This was originally established as a base in 1909. It was measured again using the then new squat untapered pillars in 1938 under the direction of Major Hotine. Sadly the pillar at the other (west) end of the base, 11087, was destroyed 9/01/1973. Flush brackets in the 110** series had been added to both base pillars and five of the base extension pillars in July 1963. Of the other three extension pillars, Mormond and Bennachie were never given FBs and Corryhabbie was rebuilt as a standard tapered pillar (S6188) on 18/05/1951. Lovely wooded location. Visited 25/09/1987, GRP. Sorry no photographs yet.
