Visited today as I'd heard locally that the toppled pillar has been rebuilt - this is correct, lovely job, nice stonework but capped with concrete. Flush plate and fittings on top have been reinstated properly though. Very pleased to see it!

Looking sad. Local newspaper reports say it was found toppled in early February. Not clear is it was vandalism or weather.

Approached from Rydal and down to Grasmere. Quite tiring with lots of weight on the back, but otherwise an easy and enjoyable walk to the top. Panorama to multiple areas of the Lakeland fells.

Walked up from Clappersgate via Lily Tarn and ascended on one of the many paths leading to this Lakeland pillar. Another spectacular autumnal day, however VERY strong winds above 300m and lethal underfoot. A good choice to stay low. Storm Arwen has bought so many trees down, the amount is shocking. There was over a dozen blocking A591, the many services that cleared the roads earlier are gifted Loughrigg....a mammoth task.

Every once in a while you do get super fortunate and manage to combine bagging opportunities with work. Today was one such day when I landed myself a really cushy checkpoint marshaling the summit trig up on Loughrigg Fell for several hours this afternoon.

Walked from White Moss car park through drizzle and low cloud. Just kept going through the murk not knowing how close we were as couldn't see the summit. Eventually 9 year old Charlotte shouted that she'd spotted the pillar. Obligatory pictures taken and a stone added to the top. On the walk back down the clouds lifted and we could see the pillar from quite a distance.

Glorious day of snow on the fells with vibrant autumn colours at their peak. Quite a slither up and down the path from Rydal.

After the morning kayaking on Rydal water it was good to get a different perspective from above. We took a man path from the caves which are also worth a visit to the trig - first local stone trig bagged and a fine specimen too. Started to snow whilst on top but luckily we'd seen 360 degree views before the cloud decended. ;-) No idea why I don't have a decent picture of this only one from a distance!

Dropped off early at Ambleside YHA after a few days at Buttermere. Changed and set off as the rain started,, not wanting to stay inside all day. Some road walking to start, before ascending on the bridleway via Brow Head Farm to the East. In cloud by the top. Carried on to descend to Grasmere and follow low level route back by Rydal water and another lengthy road walk. Rain beginning to soak through clothing and so glad to get back.

Accessed from the Grasmere side, lovely walk up from Red Bank, Loughrigg Terrace etc. No 99 on my Wainwright list. As Wainwright suggests this must be one of the most picturesque spots to site a trig point. Visibility reasonable with a spot of sun breaking through onto the Langdales. will definitely put on the re-visit list.

5 mile circular on Loughrigg Fell on my birthday, very nice eventhough we were supposed to be on The Old Man, the weather was awful, can't complain though we had just had 4 days in Scotland in sunshine bagging Broad Law, Culter Fell, Beinn Dorain, Beinn an Dothaidh, Ben Nevis, Black Meldon, White Meldon and Tinto. I was staying in Ambleside with Christine for a few days and this was the nearest pillar. I parked, somewhat cheekily, off the track just inside the gate to the National Trust property at NY 34030 05503 then we set off north along the track until we came to the start of the path up the hill. It was a little rugged and steep in some places but Christine, who suffers from fibromyalgia and vertigo, managed to reach the summit with a little help on the tougher parts. There were quite a few people coming and going as the weather was pleasant enough with only the occasional few spots of rain. The vista was well worth the climb with an excellent view of Grasmere on route. The pillar is built from local stone and is in generally good condition. The centre plug has been replaced with a plastic bung.

Managed to squeeze this one in just as mate wanted to do holme fell via hodge house quarry.Parked sneakily in a small cutting on the back road to grassmere this lead directly to loughrigg terrace,then striaght up steep path direct to trig,great views as always from here trig in vgc plastic plug very cold now last on fell.

I climbed this with my cousin Alison and her husband Chris, halfway up the heavens opened and we were soaked, it made the climb quite slippyt the amomgst the rocks but the scenery and views from the summit made it all worth while, make sure you make the short walk at the summit to view Loughrigg Fell.

Parked just off A593,walked up minor road and took the Loughrigg tarn footpath. A fairly steep and stepped in places path leads to the pillar. Tremendous views on a lovely day. They don't get much better than this.

Not sure that any trig in the lakes could score lower than a 7, even on a horrible day! Got this one after an six hour journey from Devon. Walked up from the south to the east of the tarn where we had parked. Nice views up great langdale valley and down towards Grasmere.

Charming little hill, normally packed I'm sure with tourists from nearby Grasmere, but not at 08:30 on this drizzly Saturday morning. Picked this one up on the way to the Langdales via Silver How and Blea Rigg. A good day with almost no rain, despite the dire predictions from Metcheck.

Ascended from Grasmere after walk around lake on a very warm and hazy day. Sparkling little hill with fab views all around. Ascent was very easy for an outstanding view! Reccommend some Grasmere gingerbread for the return!

The last day of our 2007 trip to the Lakes and we were slowly heading back towards Yorkshire. We debated about climbing this one but it was a perfect day and one should take opportunities when they come I think. We paid the car park fee and ascended via Loughrigg Terrace. The ascent is like climbing many flights of stairs. At the top stood a couple of senior citizens. 'They must have been helicoptered up here ' I whispered to Jenny. Beautiful views all round, perfect weather, a memorable trip.

Took in the top on a short walk from Waterhead to Grasmere. Under cloud when we set off, but clear when we arrived and good all round views. Managed to persuade Heather to come with us too.

On the way to Keswick to start a weeks Holiday so took the opportinity to bag a small one on the way. Nice to be on top and still below the clouds. Suprising quiet considering how full the carpark was. Trig in good order, just a few stone missing

Very wet walk up, rain from above and soaked bracken from below the FP is the obvious choice but if you want to be off the paved way then a little south of the FP on the langdale back road there is a track marked on the 25k that climbs from a pull in. After the kissing gate make for the track in the small gully not the obvious one by the wall and you lead direct to the trig. The alternative is a bracken slog (to my cost) not much by view today but they look promising

Nipped up to enjoy the views after a fine days bouldering on the Langdale Boulders (and a quality pint in the Dungeon Gyll). Nice loosener and well worth the effort.

Visited to record FB number. The pillar was completed in May 1949 costing £18.6s.3d. In 1950 this marker was computed for triangulation as tertiary station SD47/T63 in the Barrow-in-Furness seconday block. Flush bracket S5470 was levelled for height also in 1950. This trig point was last inspected by the OS on 16th July 2000 recorded as maintenance required. Stone built pillar. Flush bracket was still in situ (30/06/1991) spider had stamped font OS boss. I suppose that's gone too by now. Sorry no photo.

This would be about my second or third trigpoint. I'm the screaming brat on the right with my dad. I would be about five years old so it makes it 1963. I grew to love the hills in later years (must have been hungry!)
