We noted the comments of others that this trig has been moved and took up the challenge of trying to see if we could find it. It wasn't easy to locate but we eventually found it. There is much overgrown shrubbery around it. We parked near the new school. You need to enter the area with dilapidated houses, go around to the side facing the school and look in the undergrowth.

This pillar has been moved from its original position and lays toppled onto its side amongst building rubbish at the back of the old farm buildings remains of Lowans Hill Farm, next to the new Holyoakes Field school. How long it will still be there for is anyone's guess, but the site is marked for future development, just a matter of time before it goes completely.

I've marked this a 10 for interest because as it may not be around for much longer, lay down amongst building debris from a school being built at the site, top plate is missing, I pulled a massive root attached to a clump of grass from the sighting tube, see pictures. Located at the rear of the farm barns, I've cleared around as much as I can, with a stick and pair of boots, relatively clear and accessible, although the site is fenced off, still easy to access. Bag this trig before its gone forever.

Parked on Cookridge Close. Took the footpath that runs north and then northwest from there around to what is now a rubbish tip. The pillar can be found toppled within that rubblish tip. The spider is missing. Hence, the pillar has been moved again, this time to grid reference SP 03281 68719. The pillar could now be facing destruction once the new development has been completed. It is a disgrace that it has come to this, and the fate of this pillar is an object lesson on why they should be provided with protected status.

Parked at the top of Cookridge close near the gate into the building site. Building work is ongoing north of the derelict farm buildings, looks like a school but not too sure. The trig point is still there a couple of metres from the northern corner of the farm building in an area of rubbish / rubble with a large plank laid across it. Its not too difficult to get , walk from the corner of Cookridge close up the grassy hill on the new gravel footpath up the hill a short distance then head to towards the fencing on the brow of the grassy slope. the fencing has lot of gap which gives easy access to the old farm. The old farm and the new footpaths are clearly visible on google earth as is the new school building ?. Not bad for trig point destroyed in 1971.

Came to visit this one before the new housing estate extends in this direction and this toppled, out of place trig is removed forever. It would be nice if one of the JCB drivers or Dumper truck drivers gets permission to return it to the top of the hill where, and I'm guessing here, it came from as no trig is listed on the OS Map now. Spider missing - looks like it's been chiselled off, but flush bracket is still there.Parked in Cookridge Close and walked the short around the steel fencing to the trig. Thankfully Dadu has put the correct co-ords on this page.

The pillar is not at the stated co-ordinates but at N 52 19.015 W 001 57.207, it is much closer to the farm than the structure on the hill, lying on its back, but other than that in excellent condition. My closest to home, so long overdue for me to bag, dodging cows and donkeys in the fields.

At last, back out trigging. A long pause since the last in early November. Having visited all the extant pillars in a large area of Central England it has become harder to reach anything new. This became by far the closest to home when it was found at its new site. Followed a very familiar way out from home to the East of Birmingham, before swinging more Westward through Knowle, Hockley Heath and Beoley. Logged just over 50 miles. Easily found and reached with directions on this site.

Is this what you are looking for dad?

Hi All, pleased that I managed to help clear this one up for you. Whilst we were waiting for our house to be built I researched online the history of Lowans Hill Farm and the ROC post on the top of the hill when I came across this forum. I remember reading the posts over a year ago that the TP was missing so when I stumbled upon it I had to let you know! Interesting hobby you have, I take my hat off to your dedication. Keep up the good work.

If you walk from the highest point of the hill back towards the farm building you will see it. Not sure how far it now is from its original place but its certainly there on Lowans Hill. Hope that helps. I will try and get over there again at the weekend and get a photo for you.

Like Father Ted, I couldn't understand why this pillar is missing so I went to Lowans Hill Farm but unfortunately the guy I spoke to hadn't been there long enough the remember the pillar. However he did say that there had been some exploratory work done near the farm for possible building or a possible land-fill site and so that's when it could have been removed. Anyway, it's definitely gone and not on my current Explorer map. No doubt somebody will tell me what the flush bracket number was....
