From south via path through the wooded TuMP summit of Battle hill. Wish I'd looked at previous pics first. Someone naughty has plastered the metalwork with thick white paint so there's no definition anymore.... Grrrr Had I known I'd've put my new paint stripper bottle and toothbrush n wire brush in my pack..

Lovely walk on a summer's evening. Spectacular views in all directions. Saw a wonderful sunset too. Walked to the trig from the village of the same name, which took 55 minutes. Trig looks impressive from a distance, sat on top of a rocky outcrop. We didn't pass anyone else during the walk, just cows and calves.

1/5 Today. Parked at the pull in by the bridleway to SSW. Footpath to outcrop easy to follow. Can see the trig, pristine white along the route. Quick diversion from the path to the top. Views are spectacular 360 degrees of the Beacons and Black Mountains. Good condition, spider and FB intact, but painted.

4th for the day. Parked at Battle Forestry and walked up through woods to meet up with footpath at crossroads. Turned left and passed through, a little overgrown but okay, a few fields,15mins to a wonderful outcrop that we climbed to trig, super views from here and a great rocky scree side to explore. Trig looks good but cap is missing. Spider I think is there but heavily painted and I didn't scrape the paint to fully check- see photo. Flush Bracket/painted but in place, Painted white with red dragons on sides. The location is well worth the visit. Followed bridleway back to roadside and back to car- stopped at Battle Church on way to Brecon, for BM before a lovely hot coffee (Approx 1hr round trip)

Nearly there, Trig on outcrop!

From Lower Chapel on FP through fields. Pillar very prominent from south, impressive atop of rocky cliff faces (coarse slate). I was denied a stunning horizon panorama by gloomy weather but still worth 8/10.

Parked in wide bend in road at start of bridleway SSW of pillar. Followed bridleway for a few yards before joining a very well surfaced farm track that leads all the way to the trig which is gained by a final steep ascent. Great spot.

Visited this Trig as Britain was battered by the remains of hurricane Katia. It really was hard to stand upright at the top, but it made for a very exciting walk up from the south from Battle Hill. The digger is still there just below the summit. On a clear day the views must be superb. Excellent Trig.

The pillar is highly visible and easily accessible from nearby bridleway. I made my visit into a very pleasant circular walk. Starting from Cefncoed Bach to the south I used field paths and bridleways over Battle Hilland returned through Sarnau. The pillar itself is in excellent condition apart from a missing plug although it was something of a surprise to find an excavator up here having done some minor quarrying. Wonderful view point on a day of clear blue skies and hot sunshine - this in mid March.
