A rather protracted walk along a 'foot path' from just north of Bagley Farm, parked on the grass verge. Over a gate, across a field, through another gate then a gap in the fence, over a barbed wire fence next to a water trough then up to the top corner of that field, crawled under the hedge pillar 10yds away, lots of spooky cows

Parked at end of the road, through the gate. Seems the RoW running N past Cotshill Farm has disappeared, so a few gates etc to hop over. Trig located approx 2m in from field boundary hedgerow, on SW side, in a pasture. VGC with smooth screed finish; original cap in place, lightly indented lettering; rear sight hole open. Extensive 360deg views, May Hill prominent to NW.

Wow!!! middle of nowhere here. Parked safely before nearby (ish) Level crossing and walked passed a few cows to get to this. From parking to Trig and back to car took about 50 mins. Well worth it though.

I parked at end of minor road to east where it joins Ley Road but it is possible to park just before marked PROW on hard-standing in field. FP soon forks right but the owner of the farm here adamantly denies all knowledge of there ever having been a FP thru' his property, despite me showing him the map. I took the matter up with Gloucester County Council and after many months and persistence I am assured a diversion has been granted.

The pillar stands near the hedge of a grass field on a small hill to the west of Gloucester. It has a metal cap with shallow lettering and FB S5028. The site was reached by walking from the lay by on the A48 a kilometre to the east. There was little or no evidence of the OS mapped rights of way on the ground. The top of the hill was approached from the field on its eastern side. The trig was reached after crawling through a hedge and negotiating several barbed wire fences. The site has quite a good view across low farmland toward higher hills in the distance. The wooded ridges of the Forest of Dean are to the west. The long scarp of the Cotswold Edge is to the east. The frosty slopes of the Malvern Hills could be seen to the north.

There are three main problems with this tp :- parking and lack of footpath signs and barbed wire. Without these problems it would be a pleasant stroll but all are surmountable.

Well, this was definitely 'Lonely Planet' day up here as every habitation was utterly deserted so I had to find my own way, using the footpath to the west. This proved difficult and the barbed wire fences are still much in evidence. The pillar is in good nick, with the original plug - slightly-indented letters. Traces of paint. West sighthole open, others closed or below vegetation level. Pillar is close to a hedge in a pasture field. Lovely views on a glorious day!

Seems the farmer around here has an aversion to footpath access ,and to counter it has aquired a barbed wire fetish.Only 1 path out of 4 marked on map has any obvious signage and it goes downhill from there.Every stile /gate i came accross was adorned with wire .So as is normal with me i abandoned any attempt to follow path and just made my own,if they block rights of way deliberately dont expect me to worry about being near one.Ok views from the top but a grey day.pillar fine.

There are plenty of footpaths shown on the map but in the end we went straight up to it through an open gate just before Cotshill, just before the end of the road, in between a bungalow and a permanent mobile home. The old boy in the mobile home was very helpful and had a young Jack Russell bitch that Shane wanted to take home. I said it wasn't on as she might attack Maurice, our incumbent house mouse, who lives under the sofa.
