Short walk from layby on roadside. Situated next to nice memorial bench. Seems like this is a replacement for a destroyed trig.

Probably an open heathery hill top when pillar built but now in developing woodland. Still open around pillar but alot of bracken and no views. A double yolker with TP10105, long gone. Bracken evidently a developing problem. A notice at car park urged walkers to trample bracken as it was taking over the heathland. Bracken seems to be the bane of lower hills everywhere.

Visited during a circular walk of the area. The area close to the pillar provides good woodland walking and decent views accross the valley. The same can be said for the area close to the pillar. It is generally in good condition and is enhanced by a coat of white paint though the metal work would have been better left unpainted. The original centre for the spider and the hole is now full of leaves etc.

Parked on Woodstock Road. Took the public right of way (PRoW) from Ben Lane. As the PRoW approaches Loxley Edge, a footpath leads off the PRoW up to the pillar. The cap is missing from the spider. The pillar replaced an earlier pillar which was situated in more or less the same position

Good condition pillar. Looks very recently repainted (unfortunately with metalwork also painted...). Cap missing with no replacement. FB faces south-east-ish with south-west-ish sighthole open only. Good rock formation beside it. No views due to trees. Nice walk around the common.

"What a diff'rence a Day Makes" (Dinah Washington). Waist deep in snow on Bleaklow - Sunday, all gone today and wall to wall sunshine. I came to the the common from the E and footpaths on the ground are not on the map. Went with gut feeling and arrived at the trig pillar. VGC and in a nice sociable area. Gifted to the person in the Vatican who posted a "like" from the Popes account on a saucy Brazilian models pictures. Think me and chums have just finished "milking" this one.

(1477) Parking spots on Long Road, with a pull-in area and a mini car park inside Loxley Common. A lovely area, and one that's popular. A slightly further walk to the pillar than I'd imagined, but soon reached. Pillar painted white, so stands out amongst all the greenery. All good, though the plug is missing. Pillar history: Built on the 7th of July 1947, at a cost of £6 0s 9d. Last maintained by the OS in June of 1985.

Excellent car parking. quick dash down well maintained footpath - but caution its a dog walkers motorway.. Trig easy to spot and with a reasonably newish coat of paint. visibility restricted from all the tree growth but nothing lost due to it being a misty rainy day. Done with Nozzer.

A trig with a car park, a common to explore and a bench. Parked on Rural Lane to the E. Followed the waymarked "Easy route" W. If you stay on this route, the trig is eventually seen on your left (S) not long after a four way FP/BW sign. A popular dog walking spot, and just as I was excitedly approaching a couple emerged from the trees delaying my concrete appointment somewhat. Eventually alone with the trig inspection revealed a freshly white painted masterpiece, plastic cap. Slight red aerosol mark on FB. No views due to trees.

Hurah! Nice to visit a site where a pillar still exists. I was bringing my son back to college so managed to persuade him, my wife and dog that a stroll to this trig in cold blustery conditions was essential. I think they all enjoyed it.

Don't know how I managed to find this one but find it I did. Turns out I've driven past Loxley Common 3 days a week for 18 months without even realising it was there let alone that a trig pillar sits in the middle of it. Had a couple of hours to spare this afternoon so I thought that would give me enough time to bag this one before the next band of rain swept in. Should know better than that by now !! The multitude of paths in woods often means I'm never entirely sure which one on the map I'm actually on. Parked in the car park on Rural Ln then followed the obvious path West across the common, eventually coming to a signed 4-way junction of footpaths / bridleways. Gut instinct told me I was close so I ferretted about for a bit without success. Having lost total sense of where I was I then spent several minutes studying my map before deciding to continue heading west. The gods must have been smiling on me though because a few steps later and there it was - a brilliant white pillar straight infront of me !! Obviously cared for and in good condition with replacement plastic cap. Minor amount of graffiti and scorch mark at base on one face with partially burnt material around the pillar. No views to speak of but the threatening clouds, distant rumble of thunder and nearby Loxley Edge added interest. If you make it to the 4-way junction I mentioned above then take the (signed) bridleway WSW. About 250m on you will reach a wooden trail marker post. Turn left here and the pillar is over to your right a little further along this track.

Lovely location and very accessible with car park close by. The management of the area is being reviewed and the first public drop in meeting was to take place at the trig point just 5 minutes after my visit. Ranger and City Council man on hand to do the business. The latter was cheery, the former seemed to want to be elsewhere.

Easy access and very visible. I parked on the Loxley to Worrall road in the parking area. Followed a good surfaced path which led directly to the pillar. No views to speak of surrounded by scrubland but still a pleasant recreatonal area. Nicely painted white with plastic plug. [Visited again on 09.09.09 whilst walking in the area with my walking group, The Irregulars, LDWA. Took some pictures this time. Think red paint and graffiti have been added since my last visit.]

I parked on the roadside pull in but a car park does exist (free) 200m closer. Area is subject to active managment and I had several near misses on tripping over felled birch remains. Trig itself is on a path and very white
