Dirt pull-in to NE at 189m spot height on road (SJ 7791 4063). Good woodland track up to the pillar. New composite centre cap been there 18 months now and still looking good; rear sight hole open. Woodland, so no views.

After Tuesday's 225 mile 'round' trip to 'knock-off' seven South West Lakeland trigs Broughton/Barrow-in-Furness way needed something much less 'taxing'. Decided on a much nearer drive with a there, back, 'done & dusted' by lunchtime to 'knock-off' just four trigs on the Crewe & Nantwich 257 OS map...Heighley, Blackenhall, Woore & Maers Hill. For Heighley roadside parked at GR 77474 47704 (? a passing place) & post a short road walk South, taking a right thro' an open gate, went up-field, climbed over a barbed-wire fence & located the trig but a short distance into the next field. For Blackenhall off-road parked in the 'fanned-out' entrance area of Gonsley Farm & Bunks GR 72814 48352 & post short road walk NW crossing the road, accessed a hedge-stile at GR 72711 48419 proceeding across grassy fields to access the trig. For Woore, off-road parked by the padlocked-gates in front of the reservoir access lane GR 72605 42484 & accessed the lane to the right, ? a few steps into a private residence before exiting out thro' a hollybush. Encountering more padlocked-gates at the end of the lane, 'ducking-under' a single-strand wire, 'scouted' the perimeter of the compound for a way in. None found I remembered back to Ann Robinson & The weakest Link...The compound fencing could quite easily be entered into using the wooden fence poles outside it to get a 'purchase' in but they couldn't be used for getting out. The compounds 'weakest link' was the two squares around the slide-bolt which could easily be used as foot-holds to gain an 'up & over' both in & out...Perhaps like me you'd be satisfied with just a photey from the back of the compound? Driving into Woore proper, given directions as to where The Old School House was (Painterman61 having provided none) parking somewhat reluctantly half-on & half-off the curb on Northland GR 73175 42067, taking a right, a short road walk 'led' me to the building. Met up with Fiona, a most pleasant lady from whom along with another chappie she was talking to, i'd gotten directions several minutes earlier, explaining what it was I was in pursuit of she said her husband, a geography teacher would be most interested. Much thanx to Painterman61 for awareness as to The Old School House flush bracket & from StewB for those interested, the GR is 73102 42211. For Maers Hill lay-by parked aside the PROW off the minor road NNW of the trig at GR 77580 40591. Crossing the road & climbing the stile, continued along the prominent path ignoring its continuation right to 'take' a left at GR 77609 40544. Stepping-over the barbed-wire low down but a coupl'a yards on, I continued upwards thro' the trees on relatively good tracks veering left from a gated-substation to locate the trig on the path.All in all a relatively easy one as 'trigbagging' days go, parking, access & navigation all worked well...Next trig's my 700th Sunday in Abergele with partner Pam. Another biggy next week, The Seascale to Hodbarrow 7 to complete The English Lakes S-W OL6 OS map.

Stumbled upon this one whilst trail running around Maer Hills. Parked on Maerway Lane. No views from trig as it’s in a wooded area. Lovely place for a walk though, not far from the road.

K A quick walk on a clear path up over a brand new stile from the road summit ENE through pleasant woodland with rhododendron thickets. No view but from the odd tantalising glimpses through gaps in trees it appears there would have been a good one before the trees grew up. Another summit spoilt by a mast and related structures.

Parked in a small lay bye at the 189 spot height shown on the O.S map near Swallow Hill. A footpath from the lay bye heads directly up through the wood to the trig point. No views, surrounded by trees on all sides.

Circular walk from Baldwins Gate via Hill Chorlton, Maer, Maer Hills, Old Madeley Manor. Trig point easy to find alongside mast and outside compound. No views however due to tree cover.

Came here whilst geocaching. Pillar is in good condition but is sited in what is now woodland so therefore zero views.

Discovered this pillar whilst out Geocahing with my Sister. The Pillar is in a shaded,mossy area of woodland near to a telcom facility.The Pillar is in good condition given its present location.

2/5 Parked on small pullin on Camp Hill right opposite the path to the pillar. Quite a lot of snow on the ground on this lovely spring day. The pillar sits just outside the mast compound. Limited views. Judging by the number of cider bottles aroud, I guess this could be a meeting place for the local troglodytes.

Next to research facility (Radio Astronomy) for Manchester University. Although top of a hill, it is surrounded by woodland so nothing to see.

In woodland near a compound holding acommunication mast for connecting radio telescopes together. Vodaphone are planning to put up another mast here,so the compound may grow cutting off the pillar, or worse. The plug was missing, otherwise all OK. Visited again 30/11/03. Passed by when orienteering in Maer Hills. Dont like meeting trigs when orienteering - they are usually on hill tops!
