As others, viewed from Cnoc na h-Airighe. I declined to point my camera at the base. Unlikely to get any closer until the Scots get independence!

Not sure where to start here, started by going to the south gate which is now unused by the looks, then drove round and parked just before the bridge on the road, lisa decided not to walk up and waited in the car, i set off towards the tree line just on front of the security fence, easy enough to get to the fence but as soon as I did a police car approached from within the site, at this stage Lisa rung to said 3 police cars were with her at the car, quick chat through the fence and I was turned around, back at the car Lisa had done the explaining and after a few checks we were away with the advice not to do it again, all police officers were excellent and polite at all times. Unfortunately though my gps was showing pillar approx 150 metres away I could not see it.

Drive-by. 450m away. Could have been miles. Can't even see the nearest part of fence from the road as it's in a cutting. Judging by the nature of the base and the fences....this one is the Inn Pinn

Following recent correspondence on Yahoo! Groups RHB and Trigonomy, and due to the fact that I was planning a trip through here anyway, I thought we would give this one a try. Armed with a 1:25K map, we decided to drive to the mapped entrance which is approximately 500m southwest of the trig. Apparently this is not the main entrance, and is only open for limited hours on weekdays. The gates were locked so we turned the car only to see an oncoming Police vehicle approaching. I got out and explained that we were investigating the possiblity of visiting the trig pillar on Mam Mor, showing my map to the police. They explained that where I wanted to go was inside the restricted area of the Trident Base and that there was no way that a visit would ever be permitted. I said *never?*, they both confirmed *never!*. I should emphasize that the conversation was friendly at all times. A local resident later confirmed that anybody heading along any of the roads leading to the Base could expect to be stopped by the police. So I guess a visit to trig pillar S8862 is out for the forseeable.

Tussocky walk up from from road pass to SE. Trig visible c 30m back, behind (extremely) high security fence topped by razor wire and with cctv cameras on high poles at frequent intervals & guard dog notices. Trig in tussocky grass - FB prob not visible even using a scope, if you'd dare taking one up... FB given by OS as S8862. Fence (but not trig) can be sighted more easily where it crosses public road at lochside - a mighty piece of work well deserving its high mark :-( NB the nearby Yeaman summit Cnoc na h-Airighe has a P.S.A. (MoD) trig bolt - see separate page.

Going to have to check the existance of this one with a scope.I thought I could see it from Beinn a Mhanaich, but it what I saw could have been some military equipment. Its firmly within the defensive perimeter of Coulport sub. base. Barring a freakish outbreak of sanity, you wont get this one. Fortunately the neighbouring Yeaman, while still on military lane is outwith the perimeter, but folk have been harrassed on it. Probably for parking on the military road - a big No No.

Mam Mor Across from Beinn a Mhanaich... Trig or military junk? The Coulport fence is easily visible.
