Parked on main road (A6046) and walked along Bridleway towards Hopwood Hall, taking the footpath left towards the motorway. Look out for a small entrance on the right after about 100m which enters the woodland. Follow a well defined path through to a small pond and the edge of the golf course. The trig is then just a short distance away. In luck no golfers today.

Located as the name suggests but access and visitor presence does not conflict with play. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre plugged with asphalt. Flush bracket faces SSW, compass measurement 198, All sight holes open, innards filled with debris. Limited views due to surrounding trees. Part of a 24 trig stint around the northern outskirts of Manchester.

With a good weather forecast, decided to head out and tick off a few pillars North of Manchester and move the boundary of the area I've visited all pillars. Stayed at Manchester YHA last night with a visit to the National Trust property of Dunham Massey on the way out from home. A confusing and hectic first few miles out of the city centre, before picking up the A664 through Middleton. From the A6046 it was East and North on bridleways before walking across one field and onto the golf course. Pillar in view on this approach. Exchanged words with nearby golfers who didn't mind my presence for this visit.

Best day of the year for bagging golf course trigs! Parked at the start of Oaken Bank Road and followed the footpaths into Glade Wood. Then it's a short detour over a bramble patch and a climb through a barbed wire fence to access the pillar.

Standing on barbed wire fence to vault over onto course the rotten fence post pushed over backwards throwing me face first in the wet grass with a muscle sprained and scagged and bleeding right pinkie finger!! Trig Next to the eighth tree which is probably the highest ground of the tump hill top with possible competition from a mound at the SE corner of the green next to the Tee.

Parked on Oken Bank Road then walked east to enter Glade Wood from the south. Good path at first but then headed north "off piste". Met boundary path and crossed fence directly south of the trig. A couple of games being played in the distance. Back to cross the boundary then followed the clear path west to meet the north-south footpath.

Hum. Golf club. The clues are all there! Easily found from Oaken Bank Road. (Its a track) And the route into Glade Wood is a lot more inviting than may seem on a map. Keep going and you hit the barbed wire and the golfers. Over I bounded and headed for the high ground. Once there I could see the pillar beyond a couple putting away. I politely waited my opportunity to dash across the edge of the green and got my pillar hug. Unfortunately I must have felt ill at ease as I then immediately dashed back across the fairway and back into the wood. Where I remained for the next hour. Wrong wood!!!!! My escape involved orientation by the motorway and several barb wire traverses as I waded across cow widdled fields. Bah! Curse you Golf Clubs!

Round the wood and across a field, under a fence, then wait for the golf balls to stop flying. Pillar sound, by a seat and green. Good views NE. On the way back, when I rolled under the fence again, I came across my phone, monocular and audio recorder that had fallen out of my coat when I was on the way in. I had not even noticed they had gone. Talk about miracles!
