For what should have been a fairly straightforward bag this proved to be a bit of a stinker. I drove up the single track lane and saw that the gate was locked, it was quite rickety and topped off with barbed wire. As I was uncertain of my way into the field I decided against parking at the FP/Farm Gate entrance opposite and instead returned to the village and parked up there. Headed back up the lane and saw that there was a small metal gate section without barbed wire that could be used to access the field. Recent ploughing had left the ground resembling a World War One battlefield, so I followed the field edge around and up to the pillar with just one more rickety gate to clamber over to get to the FB. Decided to see if I could return via the Bridleway to the west, through another boggy sheep field and then over yet another rickety barbed wire gate to get to the path. More soggy squelchy plodding to get out to the main road and back to the car. Quite poor views for Cumbria, but at least it's a tick.

Parked on the road to the north east of the pillar. Accessed the field to the south east of the trig field via an open gate, which was an extremely boggy mud bath. Walked the hedge line up to the north west corner of the field, before climbing over a gate into the trig field. The pillar can be found between a barbed wire fence and a wooden fence next to that gate.

I found a place to park the van just south of the larger field next to the trig. Quick walk across the field and over the gate to the trig.

Parked at ny454515 east end of Miry Lonnen. Thumbed off the hedgerows and found a gap in the wire fence to allow me access into the pillar field. Trig situated within two narrow fences. Spider top intact. Flush bracket faces west.

Parked in field entrance at NY 45261 52221, walked down road and through open gate into tatty field and along fenceline to trig which is in between two wooden fences. Very wet and windy. Gate looks to be locked usually and has barbed wire along the top.

Farmer working near field entrance WNW of pillar so parked at start of prow to W. Circuitous approach first going SE along path then ENE along hedgeline and finally N to trig which is now hemmed in by barbed wire fences.

Parked roadside verge (NY 4466 5235). Short walk along farm access track opposite, and pasture to trig in a decidedly horsey environment. Pillar retains its original top cap, deeply indented lettering; front and rear sight holes open. Extensive views.

Parked in Cumwhinton and walk the footpath which was not the best idea, very muddy and frisky cattle. Accessed trig field from gate on lane, then along right hand hedge line to two temporary building in corner of field near trig.

Parked on the B6263 Wetheral road, and took the footpath under the pylons to reach this interesting equestrian area: for a moment I was fooled by the wooden, rust coloured pillar, (I'm so gullible) before walking through the long grass to find the genuine article.

Very good condition pillar accessed easily across the event jumping field from Cumwhinton. FB faces north with north/south sightholes open and clean through. Bolt covered in dirt though. Cap present with sunken lettering. Good views all round despite the limited elevation. Nearby village also has an NPFB (1358) with a cut benchmark about 6 feet to the left of it too!

We parked at the end of the short track to the west of the trig on the B6263. The trig is just inside the next field where there seems to be a permanaent set up of jumps etc for horses. Plug with heavily indented lettering.
