Path now closed for a short section to W of trig due to coastal erosion - it's still useable though, with care. Pillar found in good condition, but does have a small but noticeable tilt. Cap missing, asphalt plug; all sight holes open. Panoramic 360deg views - Isle of Wight good.

The pillar stands in a grass field overlooking Christchurch Bay. The field was entered over the barbed wire from the cliff top path a few metres to the south. It was visited during a bracing walk along the beach and above the cliffs with the wife, son, hound and granddaughter from the car park on the edge of Milford on Sea to the east. The pillar appeared to have a slight lean and it has a few small chunks missing from a bottom corner. The base is exposed by about six inches. It has FB S2711 and its spider has an asphalt plug. The trig has a good coastal view to the south. Hurst Beach and the downs of the Isle of Wight could be seen to the east. The Needles are to the south and the Isle of Purbeck and Purbeck Hills are in the distance to the south-west. Parts of Bournemouth can be seen in the west. Sway Tower can be seen inland to the north. The Highcliffe to Milford Cliffs have been designated a SSSI for their fossils and a few remnants of war time tank traps were encountered on our walk.
