Pulled over at T junction next to gate to footpath heading east. Through gate into field and along track, although footpath actually goes south east, marked by a couple of red metal gates like crossing points for pedestrians when roads are closed. Climbed fence at south east corner of field just to south of quarry pit although there is a stile to the west of this point. A few metres further east spotted pillar nestled in the hedge. A bit of vegetation pushed back to get a couple of photographs. Views to south. Spider and tarmac cap in place. FB number slightly buried but soil loose so not too much trouble to clear it.

(309) The route from the West is closer to the pillar, but parking options looked better inside East Keal itself, so tackled this trig from there. Found a handy spot on the A16 at the War Memorial. The PROW runs alongside this. Somebody was driving a hulking bit of machinery up and down the final field that needed to be crossed, but it was still so incredibly misty, I could hear them better than I could see them. Pondering as to whether It would be best to somehow catch their attention before moving across the field, they then disappeared into the gloom and didn't return, So with the field to myself, I then made the short trip off the ROW to the pillar. Spotted easily enough, though the top isn't too visible due to hedge encroachment, but all else looked in good order.

On way back to Sheffield, first of three after meeting up with uni mate and visit to RAF Conningsby for a BBMF show. Easy to find trig using FP up the hill and veering off to see the trig in the hedge. Front of trig is showing, the hedge has been neatly cut back. The weather was warm, unusual for October, maybe that was why there were a dozen Red Admiral butterflies flying about.

The trig is trying its best to hide in the hedge adopting lichen camouflage. If it hadn't been a very chilly winters day with a chillier breeze and the views being distinctly grey as the rain arrives, I'm sure I'd be scoring it higher. The views are wide and in the sunshine should be fantastic as this is the last hill of the Wolds and flat lands spread beyond. A revisit on a warmer day beckons.

The footpath up from the nearest road was guarded by bovine beasties so I approached along the side of the adjacent cropfield. Pillar is embedded in hedge, and somewhat soil-submerged, the bottom of the flush bracket is flush with the ground. Good views, especially to the E, once you crest the top of the cropfield (the pillar is not at the highest point in the field).

Last trig of the day and it was drizzling heavily. Of course, the footpath [I approached from the W] ran through a field of waist-high grass so I got soaked and then I couldn't find the pillar for love or money. Using previous logs I eventually found it almost completely covered with vegetation which meant more soaking trying to access it. The plug is plastic. There isn't any paint and the sightholes are below soil or vegetation level. Incidentally, there was an interesting memorial oak tree by the second stile off the lane. Good views E on a clear day, which today wasn't.
