Location under a small rock that a car parked over just as we were heading to it. The owner actors kindly backed up to give us access. 1" bolt in block. Actors encouraged to attend their first night tonight.

Whilst visiting the Minack Theatre, I turned on my Garmin and was surprised to see this surface block and the former rivet in the vicinity. A quick bit of research using the cafe's free wifi told me what to look for. I was without suitable tools and finger nails and car keys were not good enough to prise up the stone so I had to be content with finding the exact location.

Covering stone but the OS marking is fading.
Location I didn't notice any marking on the kerb, just tyre marks.

Great find. We were visiting the theatre - to see The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. It was under a car before the performance, but clear when we came to leave. Still under the stone.

Block is now covered by a neat pentagon of concrete marked OS, also OS and arrow marked on nearby kerb. Busy easter Sunday but was able to discretely lever up the slab, find a 1 inch bolt underneath and replace it. 1.2m from kerb, 11.5m from speed bump. Next to obvious line of dead grass visible in photos. Great find by Berries!

We found the trig point after a 6 hour GPS raw data logging. Returned the following day after calculations to dig the turf up. (permission requested from Minack)

This trig is gone! Perhaps it has been buried, but I wander whether the OS will be annoyed! The "grass bank" is now the car park.

There has been a reconstruction of the overflow carpark of the world famous Minack open air theatre but unfortunately they haven't felt it fit to preserve the trig point:-(. I suppose it may be there under the relaid carpark but you'll need a metal dector to locate it. The grass bank on the OS picture is no longer there (or the young girl)

I used this block some years ago when I was surveying routes for telecomms cables landing into Porthcurno and Whitesands Bay. I used very accurate survey GPS to locate it - this was back when selective availability still applied. It is/was buried under the turf, there was no sign at the surface but shallow excavation revealed it. When finished logging I replaced the earth and turf and stamped it down, all left good. Of course, you need to try and find it when there's nothing on at the theatre, otherwise you may find a vehicle parked on top of it !
