Walked up from small car park to West with Extra Shorty past allotments with some huge beetroot and pumpkins before wiggling up to the neat top with toposcope. Another top spoiled by a mast and the vehicle yard and quarry fencing detract too, but despite this a pleasant surprising find and learnt a bit from the information boards.

A revisit. I often visit this pillar for a short walk after work. Today I was saddened to see the nearby view indicator had had its metal display removed, presumably stolen. I checked the trig and all the metalwork appeared intact. It was a few weeks since I last been there and all was ok then.

Started the day at Billa Barra car park, walked to Bardon Hill then Charnwood. Retraced my steps to Ulverscroft Farm from Charnwood then past Chitterman Hill Farm. Some long stretches of tarmac unavoidable on this route. Great views from all these Leicestershire trigpoints. Wish all the counties had such good footpath signage and concern for walkers. Markfield trigpoint was a pleasant surprise seemed to appear from nowhere as I climbed from the centre of the village. Area well looked after, great views but I never escaped from traffic noise all day.

Great location with interesting rock shapes left by quarrying nestled around the back of the village. Parked by the church and walked up through the nature reserve. Distant views a bit hazy. Now the techie bit for those with a radio telecoms background. My usual Bluetooth GPS receiver (BT-308) that I use with my phone running the great gpsj.eu software would not get a fix, I used my old original eTrex which isn't as accurate. When I dropped down hill a bit the BT-308 worked again, walk back up hill and watch it drop off. I think the nearby cell base station (see my photo) must have been causing receiver blocking, the eTrex is obviously better made.

The Trig Point with Cell Site Behind This picture shows the trigpoint with the nearby cell site behind. I think it was signals from this site on a similar frequency that prevented by GlobalSat BT-308 Bluetooth GPS (on top of the trig) working properly.
