A vandalised pillar in an uninspiring area. On the plus side, there were glimpses of Pendle Hill through the trees and it did have a FP straight to it from the road in it's own little ginnel

(2253) Easy parking on King's Causeway, and then a short-ish walk up the narrow and overgrown PRoW to the pillar. Top has been vandalised (since 2004) and the spider is fully exposed. Everything else is in good nick. My first Lancashire pillar. Pillar history: Built on the 7th of June 1948, at a cost of £14 8s 6d. Last maintained by the OS in October of 1980.

Marsden Heights. We met Bill the farm and land owner where the pillar is. He was walking his golden labrador and cat. I was waiting for him to come through the gate with his dog near the pylons. I could see an animal peeping around the path. I said have you another dog coming out, he said no its my cat. He said the pillar is badly damaged by people chipping at the top. I said I will mention you would be really happy if someone could fix it. I said thank you very much for the pillar still there for us to visit.

Parking in the road to the N then easy pop along foot path. Interesting this one. I met the land owner, walking his dog and cat (see image) he advised me he is going to repair the pillar this year. We had a chat about trigpoints and some of the others near by including Pendle.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 7th June 1948 costing £14.8s.6d. Computed as secondary triangulation station SD74/9 within the Blackburn block during 1948. Levelled for height in 1961. Last maintained by the OS in October 1980. SITE VISIT: Approached from the northeast. Ample free roadside parking in King's Causeway, SD861362. Westerly RoW avoids crossing the golf course. Pillar in northeast corner of grazing plot occupied by placid horses. Column in damaged condition, failed attempt to remove spider between 2/07/2000 and 27/11/2004. Spider centre open, plastic cap was fitted in 2000 by JWR, also gone by 2004. Flush bracket faces northwest ~309°. Open sight hole presumed to be on the SE face which is buried. Limited views but open aspects to Hameldon Hill and Pendle Hill.
