Parked in the village of Bonsall and expected to walk up to the Heights of Abraham from the west. Had only walked a few metres when I stopped and asked someone doing their gardening if this was the way to the top of the hill. When I mentioned I wanted to get to the TP they corrected me by saying it was on Masson Hill and very helpfully said I could ride up the lane (Ember Lane) behind the church and go as far as the farm. So that saved a bit of time and a hike on a sunny day. Quite a steep lane, parked bike on ground just beyond entrance to farm yard. Through gate where farmer was mending his tractor, asked if I could leave jacket and lid, fine with that. Footpath not very clear, picked a way through gorse and bushes to the top of the hill. No sign of a pillar. Walked around to far side of hill, over a wall by a tree then back again. Checked on here to discover it was converted. Bit disappointing but not a complete waste of time as bolt was fairly easy to find being on the highest point of the hill. Noise from Matlock was carried up to the top of the hill, sounded like some sort of open air concert going on.

Lovely day with good views and excellent visibility in almost every direction. Much the pity no pillar, always good to get a glimpse of the trig on the way to the top of the hill.

Took the lazt route up to the crowds at the Heights of Abraham, (plus a quick pint with a great view in the Summit Bar). Escaped to the north, but missed the footpath before Masson Lees Farm. This meant another bit of the Limestone Trail. All went well, and great fun orienting with KS's photo. Route down took a turn for the worse when we reached Ember Farm just before milking time. Squelched through the yard pushing aside a herd of about 40! (Officially that's 100 now. Perhaps I need to be more selective. Too many didn't have that mountain/high point feel about it.)
