It's gone. It's not by the mast, it's definitely not in the field and despite a good look around the hedgerows, it's just not there. The field had a recently germinated grass covering it, but just where the GPS said the trig should be, I detected recently disturbed ground. The trig could have been buried or it may have been removed. Time will tell.

Last for today - Christmas dinner now - the traditional Cornish pastie. The (very friendly) farmer was feeding cows nearby and came to join me at the pillar. He explained that exposed base was caused by wind erosion the soil being very fine. He said that health and safety concerns were making him think that the pillar should be moved. I agreed with him and said that I'd just visited Fingay Hill where the pillar had been moved to the nearby hedgerow. After a long chat we agreed that it would be best to relocate the pillar behind the nearby mast. Anyone wanting to visit could then walk up the track without damaging the crops and using machinery in the field would be much easier. He was very interested in preserving local heritage and I'm sure the pillar will be sympathetically moved possibly after the field is harvested. When I finally sat down for my dinner I found that I'd not put my pastie in my rucksack so no Christmas dinner for me after all.
