Highpoint of Seil. Another dull drizzly day, fog down to sea level. Started from road at bend, theres a large house and a track climbs up from there along a stream. When it leveled off I headed east and along a cliff edge till the pillar was visible. One fence to climb over. Will visit again on better day

Well having read the report by Pharisee, I am glad we did not seek permission to walk through this farmyard. We adopted our usual approach and just took access onto the open land through the yard without asking for what is rightfully ours. Grazing stock didn`t look preturbed. Easy solution to any problem like this: provide a clearly waymarked unobstructed route from the public road to the open hill.

vgc, metal cap, wide raised letters. Fine shapely craggy hill, great sea views. Scrambled up S end of ridge from road but not recommended - easy access from Easdale: NM742173 or 745173. Dun Mor also well worth a visit.

Walked up with Tim after discovering ferry to Easdale off. Probably made a mountain out of a molehill o this one, but it was good fun with a couple of tricky fences if i remember rightly.

the summit of the Isle of Seil--pleasant stroll over rocky tussocks with a nasty fence to cross just before the trig

Located on the summit of Meall Chaise. This is the hill about 1km north east of Ellenabéich on the Isle of Seil. I had thought to tackle this one by taking the farm track, which starts at NM 75150 17030 but as it passed through a farmyard I asked permission which was denied. The farmer said he had stock grazing that he didn’t want disturbed. He told me that there was another track up onto the hill that started behind a 12ft wide gate further along the road towards the village. I found this at NM 74534 17399. The track is rough but it heads in the right direction, at least to start with though it soon became obvious that the track, which is not shown on the 1:50,000 OS map, carries on through the gap between the hills. I left the track after a few hundred yards and followed the GPSr as best I could, roughly east, to the trig point. I had to detour around a deep corrie, cross a couple of small streams and two wire fences but the climb was not too difficult. The trig point is aligned roughly on the compass points with the number plate on the south facing side. All the metal work, including the top plug, is in place. This is the first trig point I have found where the identification number does not begin with the letter ‘S’. The view, in all directions, was stunning, particularly southeast across the island towards Balvicar. It was well worth the climb
