I decided to have a morning walk to bag this summit/trig. I'd decided on a route up when walking Catstone a few days ago and took the same track from the golf course along to the plantations to the North and walked up the side of one of them and then onto the summit. Then I realised there is a marked path on the south side on one of my maps which drops down onto the southern track which is a signed footpath from the golf course. That is definitely the easy way, the path is shown on the open source maps (from the end of the trees and straight up).

Walked up from the West Linton GC car park. Roman Road for ~1.7km, then through a mapped break in the strip plantation, and direct thereafter. Pillar has lost it's centre cap, tube not plugged; LHD side and rear sight holes open, other 2 sealed. Extensive panoramic views.

Parked at layby from Dolphington and followed Tweed trails path through the gates to the wood on the south east side of the hill. From here followed at track to the top steep but easily done in 10 minutes. Met a lovely couple from Stoke in Trent at the summit too. Not the greatest of views tonight bit of cloud. Trig in good nick.

SOTA activation of GM/SS-195. I parked in the layby on the A702 and went from the Kippit cottages end along the track then a steep uphill at the wood.

Full facilities A Trig, Bench and a swimming pool, what more could you want on a summit !©G4VFL

Parked near golf course and walked in along old Roman road. The sign that points up the hill has been broken and was laid on the floor.

Good condition pillar. FB faces north-west-ish. Cap missing and no plug. North-east-ish and south-east-ish sightholes open. Excellent views. Approached from the golf course layby to the north-east along the mapped track. Steep ascent.

Parked at West Linton Golf Club and followed Road to Slipperfield, then signposted on old Roman Road following Tweed Trails signposts. Steep climb up southern face. Welcoming bench at top, handy for rest and picnic. Stunning views

Parked just before the golf course and walked along the signposted path until a wooden sign pointed up Mendick Hill. A faint path led easily to the summit. Extensive views all round but very windy today. With A,T, CJ.

Tried to be smart and take the less steep route along the ridge from Garvald but the going proved tough with tussocky grass for most of the route. Took the more direct and steeper route back down the hill to the Roman road. Really great views from this pillar today perhaps even better than from it's higher neighbour to the south west.

Cracking little hill.We seemd to be straddling the weather system...dirty black clouds over Black Hill to the west whilst the Pentlands were in sun all day.

Revisit. PARKING & ACCESS: Nearest safe parking at NT140521 on road outside club house. A702 layby possibly nearer. Hill can be accessed via Hardgatehead or North Slipperfield. First visit. To record FB number. HISTORY: The pillar was completed 24th August 1939 costing £8.14s.6d. In 1943 this marker was computed for triangulation as tertiary station NT18/T27 in the Dunfermline Secondary Block. The flush bracket was levelled for height, also in 1943. This trigpoint was last maintained by the OS in May 1970.
