Parked beside reservoir about half a mile north of pillar. Headed south and uphill along signed woodland footpath. Through a couple of gates near the start. After about 750 metres woods to east gave way to an open field. Over fence , east and uphill. On gaining height was exposed to clear view from house to south. Pillar came into view on east side of field beside the hedge, but not in it. View to north otherwise limited. Spider and cap in place. Raised S prefix. Possibly easier access from road about two hundred metres to the east, pleasant walk from the north.

Had to climb over a fence through thick stingers having run up from Hawkridge Reservoir but managed to find it at the top of the field. In view of a house but no-one in sight and managed to get back onto the footpath through another gap in the hedge.

From gate to East

Parked in parking area at Hawkridge Reservoir. Took the now dry but steep track through the forest. Left the track and entered the field to walk the field edge. Trig sits on the hedge line. Views over Hinkley point power station. House in view and I did feel a little exposed but encountered no issues.

Parked in parking area at Hawkridge Reservoir. Took the muddy steep track through the forest. Entered the field to walk the field edge. Trig sits on the hedge line . Views over Hinkley point power station . House in view but no problem.

Spoke to farmer working in adjacent field, who was very helpful in explaining exactly where Trig. could be found and how to access it through gate and across field. Trig.is in front of hedge but on the west side in view of farmhouse.

Trig on edge of a field. High hedges meant there are minimal views. Very overlooked from house and no way to trig without trespassing. Approached the trig from a field gate to the east. Not the easiest to get to.

Hmmm, it was a pretty half-hearted attempt in boat shoes and shorts with only a 1:5000 map but I'm sure I was on the right hill. I found the house but couldn't see a trig. Saw no hedgerows anything like the photos though!

Paked on Lawyer's Hill by Hawkridge Reservoir to N. Took steep muddy forestry vehicle track RoW due S to southern edge of Hawkridge Wood, then along woods/pasture boundary until a little N of the pillar when followed hedgerow, on W side, to pillar. It is a bit overlooked from the house, but not really an issue. Original cap in place, indented lettering; LHD side and front sight holes open; BSM-style FB. Set 1m in from the hedgerow so not overgrown, but has an interesting patina of lichen. Extensive views N; limited views W.

Parked at Hawkridge Resr to N and took steep path up through wood - full of wild garlic. Then fought my way through rhodedendrons and undergrowth to be directly S of TP only to find field 'protected' by barbed wire and electric fence and dead sheep carcass, and TP to be in full view of large window in new house to S. Discretion is the better part of valour so settled for long range photo and retreated back to car.

This little fella is ovelooked by a property with large windows. Approached covertly using hedges as cover, felt a bit intrusive. Approaching from the front leaves you highly exposed, so observed and took pictures through hedge out of property sightline. Will have to return and ask permission to gain access.

The pillar stands next to the hedge of a grass field on a small hill on the edge of the Quantock Hills to the west of Bridgwater. It has a metal cap with shallow lettering and has FB S//3245. I parked next to Hawkridge Reservoir in the north. The trig was reached from Hawkridge Wood, following a bridleway for part of the way. From the pillar the wooded eastern slopes of the Quantock Hills are to the west. A wide view including Hinckley Point, Brent Knoll, Brean Down, the Bristol Channel and the Mendip Hills is to the north. Bridgwater can be seen to the east. The woods of Wind Down are to the southeast.

I approached this by parking on the yellow road to the east and heading up the hedgeline through a sheepy field. There's a new house been built immediately south of the trig which was a bit disconcerting. The trig is on the west side of the hedge with the FB facing west. Plug with indented lettering.
