September Camp 2023 Nidderdale. Decided to approach by leaving the Nidderdale Way up the PROW to High Blayshaw only to be encountered by 2 snarling dogs and the aforementioned Sir Roger Toffeebollocks hysterically shrieking we were in his garden, GOML and the path was closed. Access land should be accessible! Politely carried on regardless but the going was tough after this - Blayshaw Gill should be followed up until it is safe to cross where the shooting track enters the access land. After this we passed 2 shooting huts then Meugher's airy dome appears. After a bridge over Backstean Gill head up NW to find the green carpet mentioned by matty1971b (thanks) which is followed up the fell but left when a weather station appears on the horizon which will reveal the trig. I've always wanted to go up Meugher - if you love peaty Yorkshire moors and days where you won't see anyone this is for you. Pillar in good condition. To avoid Sir Roger and his dogs returned via Moor Hall Lane to Stean and this is the way I would recommend if ascending Meugher from Nidderdale.

Route planning spontaneous and done 'on the hoof' - set off up the Dales Way intent to do Conistone Moor TP but diverted S along the DW past the Conistone Pie then NE through Mossdale to Sandy Gate; SE along fenceline until due E of Meugher then 'off piste' across bone dry peat hags then an easily angled climb to the summit. Even for Yorkshire they'd be quite a fabulous sense of remoteness here if it wasn't for the bulldozed tracks, grouse butts and discarded shotgun cartridges that serve to entertain Rodney Toffeebollocks and the wildlife exterminating fraternity. There's even an information board at Bycliffe that claims that grouse shooting is "Essential for the conservation of the Yorkshire Dales" - a lie so blatant and so stupid it can only have been written by Boris Johnson himself. Put a bit of a downer on my days trigpointing that did. Returned via Conistone Moor TP. Back to start to complete a 6 hour walk of 14.25 miles. Weather fabulous, views terrific throughout the day.
