You can get close to the pillar using the PROW but obvious the farmer does not want you to have access to the enclosure containing the pillar itself. There is a wooden gate but with electric wire and two lots of barbed wire making access impossible at the moment.

Gargrave is a regular stop off point when visiting various locations in Yorkshire & the Lake District. This was one of those occasions and I used it to visit this pillar. I parked in the lay-by and followed the PROW before climbing the barbed wire lined double gate to get to the pillar. Good views of the surrounding area including Gargrave. The pillar is in generally good condition and retains the original centre for the spider.
