(715) Parked up at Horsewold Farm, and met with the landowner, who readily gave permission to visit the pillar. Explained what trig bagging was all about - "Are you going to hug it?" Warned that the electric fence was on. Large gap in the hedge to gain access into the field, and then it's a short walk to the trig. Hedge almost covering the pillar, but a bit of trampling down of the grass/nettles revealed it a wee bit more. FB faces away for the field, which necessitated scrambling around the back. Just enough room between the hedge and the electric fence to peer inside and photograph.

Nine days ago, Tues17th this was the second of three unseen trigs in a row, 'buried' in hawthorn, that constituted 'Tears of a trig pillock. Trig free Tuesday' I didn't find it due entirely to fact of having only my 1.50k map with me and not having clear idea which field boundary it was on and not then having good new phone with internet access to TPUK. Unknowingly I walked up right past it. Back home at the computer on TPUK and Streetmap 1.25k I soon found, much to my utter frustration and embarrassment, that all three were there and that I'd walked right past all three of them!!! Nine days on, visiting the same three in reverse, this was the second and I came with son Jamie, 1.25k map and most important equipment, secateurs and folding saw. It had to be within 50 metres of the road according to the map. The hawthorn hedge was massive, prob 2 metres thick and a bit more than two metres high, covered with a dense thickness of pussy willow interlaced with six foot high nettles. No wonder I never found it when I didn't even have a certainty it was in this hedge and within 50m. Had to carefully try and kick away enough of the other foliage detritus, eventually revealed the base of the trig totally encased with hawthorn. A comprehensive pruning on east side left it able to bask in full sunrise. FB on west face.
