Circular walk - parked at north end of Snainton Lane at public car park. Traversed fields, bridleways and footpaths to Snainton. A little off-piste to reach TP, and left all walls intact. Wide field margins so no damage as TP stuck in fieldside hedge. Great views over to the Wolds - and more importantly, so peaceful!

I parked up on the grass verge opposite the ROW on Nettledale Lane, and then followed the footpath around the field edges. The trig field was still yet to be fully harvested, and was still largely wheat, so as the footpath reached the wall before Hog Pasture I turned off and just followed the scrubby field edge instead, turning at the top to follow the hedge right to the trig. The pillar has obviously been pulled up and moved, as the entire foundation is above ground, and it has a definite lean. It seems in good condition though, with an original cap.The flush bracket faces south into the hedge, frustratingly, and said hedge has really thickened up. I returned the same way without any access problem or challenge. Despite this one looking quite trespassy on paper, I think you can mitigate this with careful timing and choice of approach - it was dusk as I reached the pillar, and the only thing I encountered was a roe deer crossing my path back to the car.

Visible and accessible by walking round field edges from bridleway to north. Asked permission of farmer who was ploughing nearby field to deviate away from footpath. No problem but he advised me that whilst the pillar is in the hedge (dumped) it used to be in a field belonging to another farm. Because it was in the way the farmer had uprooted it (foundationas and all)and put it on the field boundary now in the hedge. Now not quite vertical but has all the resemblance of being part of the hedge. At least it is still there and in very good condition. The farmer said I could have it if I wanted it! Nice all round views.
