(38) Parked up just inside Faulding lane. Next to the roadside, and in a direct line to the pillar, it was a hive of activity with farm workers doing various jobs, so I walked the other - much longer, but more discreet - way round. Braved the more direct route going back, and though still a good walk, it's only a brisk eight to ten minutes. The pillar itself is all complete, if a tad mud splattered, and lichen encrusted, but it commands a good central location in the field, so the view in all directions are pretty clear. The field the pillar sits in, is the site of the Killingholme Hoard - some 4000+ Roman coins - that was discovered in the 90s. Pillar history: Built on the 2nd of June 1939, at a cost of 5 9s 0d. Last maintained by the OS in September of 1987.

The A160 road towards Habrough road roundabout is currently being up graded and the construction of a new roundabout is also planned. This is using a large piece of land north to the trig point but it will be hopefully unaffected .Parked on Harbrough Road and started to walk straight towards the trig but we were spotted and stopped by one of the managers from to the site who told us not to go onto the site and he would inform the farmer of our presents on his land. Had to make a even quicker dash to the trig and back. Once the new road is finished it will reduce to distance from the A160 road to the trig.

Arrived just at the right time as the crop had been recently harvested and the pillar was clearly visible on the skyline. Walked up the field boundary from near the mast to the north, then across harrowed ground towards the pillar. Found old horseshoe in the middle of the field. All intact. Pillar is sitting in an uncropped band which runs E-W across the field, so when cropped access may be possible from the A160 to the west.

Last of three pollars left to visit in area and achieved today. Observable from main road to North. Intervening land has already been ploughed and disc harrowed, giving some 400 yards of terrain like crossing demolition rubble! In one large field at edge of crop, slight rise from road. views of industrial Immingham. A nightmare to cross the road to return Eastward and then quieter road South at roundabout

Visit with Carole. Certainly a pillar to visit outside the crop growing season as it is in the centre of a cultivated field. We parked on the road to the north just by the radio mast (The Poplars) where there is just enough room to park a car. We then followed a drainage ditch south before hoofing it across the open field to reach the pillar. Everything in good condition which is something of a surprise when you consider the number of agricultural machines that must pass it each planting and harvesting season. Still retains an original plug.
