unable to get right up to it it even see it clearly as I have a feeling the farmer doesn't want people in the field, to be fair it is full of lambs. so will try again some time

Easy to locate, but field between pillar and road had young lambs in so decided to view across the field. Visited on Durham to Dorset walk, at start of 5 days walking.

Same route as paul xtr trig in vgc mortar cap back to get one i missed the other week. P.S. heard on radio during the day a plane had crashed nearby a few hours later near castle howard both people sadly died.

Parked in farm entrance and knocked on the farmhouse door to ask for permission to visit. No answer, so went over the stile and to the trig. Good view of the ruins of the nearby Sheriff Hutton Castle.

Parked by lane leading to Mill Hill Farm. Asked at farmhouse for permission to enter field - readily given. There is a stile (from which the trig point can be seen) a short way back from the farm to enter the field. No sight holes open. Pillar is close to hedge on the E side of it.

The TPLF to the rescue. Triangulation Pillar Liberation Front, swooped in, liberator Charles Everett fully equipped with the secateurs. Operation 'Hawthorn Haircut' successfully executed. Trig top liberated. On to the next rescue mission!

Accessible but somewhat hidden in hedge. I approached along a footpath and found the farmer hedge trimming so obtained his permission to go off path to make the visit. This was readily given together with directions. The pillar is covered on three sides and the top by the hedge although this looks to have been recently trimmed back. So with more growth could be hard to spot. Views are nothing special. The pillar, what could be seen, is in good condition. Fortunately the flush bracket is field side. Concrete plug but unable to ascertain state of all the holes.

Yorkshire. Well in the hedge now. The flush bracket is no problem as that faces east out of the hedge but I did not remove the vegetation covering the top.
