Revisit. SITE VISIT: Overall approach via northwest. Parked by forest entrance at NJ567072. Up via mapped track network to NJ568069 where an unmapped track leads away to the southwest. Just before that track leaves the forest, a path marked by a cairn heads eastwards up through the trees and leads the way to the summit. Open heather clad moor just outside woods. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains OS centre cap with deep indented letters. Flush bracket faces ESE, compass measurement 124. Vented through back (NW) sight hole. Panoramic view spans 180 from east through south to west, northern half blocked by woods.

Parked at N57 09.256' W2 42.996' and headed up the track. Luckily there is a geocache at the trigpoint and the waypoints given on the cache where very useful. Turn here N57 09.173' W2 42.814' then onto N57 09.100' W2 42.892' then when you get to N57 09.032' W2 42.963' which is marked by a small cairn, head up a deer track into the forest until you reach the open heather and then head straight up to the trigpoint. Be careful to get the correct track on the way back down or you might end up in denser trees as I did. Fantastic views from the trigpoint.

Decided to come up here again to enjoy the view, take the dog for a walk and check on a geocache.

Easy approach following the path above the Crossroads, although you would have to leave the path to cut through trees to emerge at the open part of the hillside beyond the fence (pictured). Good views of the road to Lumphanan and across to hills.
