We pulled off the road close to the western end of the path and walked past the rather splendid moat (but no sign of a castle) and up the hedgerow to the pillar, which, typically, was on the other side of the fence. A further short walk to the style, round to the gate and back to the pillar on the correct side of the fence. The pillar is complete and in good condition. The centre plug is of the shallow engraved variety. The views north and east towards the church are best.

walked from strensham (north!) services using access road (south of services next to motorway), over motorway and up to church. The foot path from church is not visible across the fields (no map - only google earth printout) so I walked round the edge. All fences from the services to the church are new barbed wire and somewhat intimidating. Unlike photos the trig is now overwhelmed by corn crop (not sheep ) so is less obvious. In order to carry on to moat farm I had to climb under an electric fence , and go through a field of cattle. Very good views, exceptional weather - surrounded by sun and sheeting rain, today being the wettest day of the century (100mm in 24 hours, 2m floods in chesterfield etc)!
