Hard to spot this one from the Hellifield Road even though it is very close to the ditch it looks like a tree stump in the hedge.

Parked up by the pig hut and walked back to the farm entrance. There was a contractor doing some work and after a chat he said it would be OK to walk the 80m or so to the pillar. Pillar is being consumed by hedge, but access to FB is fine. Good views of Pendle Hill push the score up a bit.

Parked on grass verge and hopped over the gate. Grass verge turned out to be 6 inch deep mud and had to push out the car. Trig is sandwiched between a fence and a hedge.

Livestock dominated this sortee.Left my wife and daughter in the White Bull, Gisburn and navigated along some very rural lanes. Parked in a nearby gateway next to some outdoor pigs,who noisily assumed it was feeding time. Hopped over the gate towards the pillar only to find a large llama type thing.sharing the field. Unimpressed with the pillar's location. Very impressed with meeting a roebuck in the road as I set off back to Gisburn

Approached it from the road as the footpath that leads through the field which it is in, doesn't pass the trig and I had dogs with me / sheep in field. It was winter time so that helped me spot it as it was hidden in the hedge. I would imagine that in summer you wouldn't spot it for the leaves. Must be the most hidden / boring trig I've bagged to date but its right by the road so easy to get to, just hard to see it.

Hard to see from adjacent road (at least in summer) as basically inside hedgerow - need to get over into field to see it properly. Views good in one direction - hedge in other!

HISTORY: Pillar completed 14th April 1949 costing £10.0s.10d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station SD96/T31 in 1951. Levelled for height in 1968. Last maintained by the OS in May 1976. SITE VISIT: Easily approached via field gate to northeast at SD804513 where there is room to park short term. Straight forward walk along field edge running parallel with road. Pillar on field side of boundary hedge and in good condition. Spider retains original OS centre cap with shallow engraved letters. Flush bracket southeast ~139° across field. Views very limited but Pendle Hill is visible on the skyline.

Quite accessible but not very visible. I walked the hedge line along Hellifield Road without spotting it. Asked at farm (Monubent Head) for permission to enter field through farmyard - no problem. Trig found in hedge with only one face showing, fortunately containing flush bracket. The other three faces are in the hedge and covered with a good growth of ivy. The one face is in good condition and the views are not too bad.

Pillar next to Hellifield Rd in hedge in front of fencing. Can park up by the gate on the opposite side of the road. Some nice scenery along the way.
