Returning home after spending 4 days in Eskdalemuir. I was a volunteer at Eskdalemuir Community Hub (The Old Schoolhouse) which was a control for the 1,500 cyclists on the London - Edinburgh- London cycle ride. I had intentions of visiting a further four pillars, but so so hot and had to have a snoozette instead. Gifted to the LEL riders who are having to push on in this heat with virtually no shade. Chapeau.

Parked in the main car park, crossed the road and followed signs for the Golf Course, then went up the track to the left of the GC which led up to the Malcolm Monument. Loads of interesting features on and around the hill and absolutely stunning views in all directions. Headed back down the same way and went on to bag Warb Law afterwards. I'd been keen to explore the Langholm hills for a while and the scenery certainly exceeded expectations :-)

From Langholm on a circular route as I’m not a lover of a straight up and down. Crossed Ewes Bridge and followed Watties Bank until a right turn took us to Highmill Bridge where we took the path along the river and then R up Far Whitshiels Cleuch to the road and the track to the trig and monument. Took the path then towards Langholm past the Whita Well complete with its drinking cup to Whita Road and into Main St where a right turn took us to the chippy for fish and chips by the river

On a long trek from Southampton to Kelso, and decided to pause here for it looked good on the map; even better, of course, in reality. Beautiful bright sunny day so perfect visibility and views from the top of Whita Hill. Cap remains in place with light lettering; two sight-holes open, two hidden. A great way to break a long journey.

Trig is in good condition. Spider top retains all bits. A dog walking area for those residents of Langholm up for a climb. Over the wall to the east is Tinnis Hil. A very distinct feature with a trig.

KD Clear breezy day. Approached easily up stony track from roadside modern sculpture (parking). The monument is huge and I kept on walking to the masts looking for the trig which was hidden by and alongside the monument. Good hilly view. Two runners ran 3 times round the monument saying it was tradition and for good luck, so I did too, just in case, to keep any potential rain away. Langholm is a snoozy, relaxed little town.
