Horrible windy day so we decided to tackle three of the lower Cumbrian Trigs. Decided to do a nice circular walk to take in this trig and Tarnriggmoor. Hoped to grab a pint on the way but all three pubs we passed were closed, so gave up and parked up in the layby at Oulton and followed the country lanes around to the Moorhouse Hall farm an met a young chap who was happy for us to walk up to the pillar. At the two small wind turbines there is a small paddock where the pillar sits in the hedge opposite. Over the metal gates where it is just possible to get to the pillar and see the FB. I could have done with my secateurs, which I had forgotten, to clear the prickly brambles to get a good shot of the FB, and I had to content myself with tapping the top of the pillar with my stick rather than touching it and it was a bit too fat to reach. To compound my misery in the 50mph gusts of wind my cap blew off and settled just out of reach in the brambles beyond the barbed wire. In the end I managed to retrieve it using two walking sticks and wee carried on the the next bag. Overall a pretty miserable bag with no real views and lots of farmyard smells.

Walked into the farmyard and the lady of the house came to the door. She pointed me in the direction of the trig. As you walk through the farm and up the path you come to two wind turbines. The trig is in the hedge on the left between the two turbines. You can use the gate to get closer to the trig, but it is on the other side of a fence. The trig looks very much intact and the FB is clearly visible. There are some views north and south along the path, but the others are hidden by the hedges.

With permission from the bungalow. Trig is well buried in hawthorn hedge. Chose not to go into field with cows on the west but went round the track to the south eat and into that field that asks bells the TuMP summit. One can get close up to the trig but not photograph the FB s that's on the other side.

Called at the farmhouse, permission readily given. Pillar sits in thorn on a raised field boundary between b/w stock fencing. Original top cap retained, deeply indented lettering; sight holes not determined. Hopped over the second wire to bag the hill top 180m across a muddy pasture in driving rain - the things we do!
