My second visit, different route. Parked at Kirkheaton and followed PROW past the flooded quarry and then SE across pasture full of sheep and cows to the TP. Fantastic views, and despite rather overcast skies, cloud base high enough not to obscure anything other than the very top of the Cheviot.

Bit of an epic, this one. Staying with a friend in Little Bavington, I set off on my bike at 0650 and was dismayed by how much height I lost going through Hallington and further South. That was quicly made up in ascending Ryal Hill which has apparently gained infamy on the cycling Tour of Britain! Anyway, once I'd scraped my lungs off the road, I cycled steadily up to the trig, which offers spectacular views, particularly this morning, of rainclouds sweeping in from the west. Undeterred, in Hawaiin shirt and shorts, I hopped on the bike to find I had a puncture, and had I bought a repair kit or spare tube? Of course not. In the rain, I freewheeled and trudged back to Ryal to meet my host who had interrupted breakfast preparations to rescue me, bless 'im.

Bike wiith flat!
