From the railway bridge to the south east followed the forestry track to the stone dyke NT02660908. Followed the wall to the summit fence then east to the pillar. Cracking views despite the flies and turbines.

Yes, twice in three months (by accident). This time from the north - over PRIVATE bridge from B719. Tried to ask permission to walk up but no one home. I set off but was soon chased after by the angry landowner and his even angrier son. The bridge and track are both PRIVATE and not to be used. They request triggers access this hill from the gate at NT024124 (hidden from view at the roadside but there is a track entrance here). Then its a case of making your way up onto the ridge (half-right) where you might pick up the ever improving buggy trod at NT 02052 12121. This joins the mapped track at sharp bend (NT 019 114), after which its a cracking walk up.

Followed Graeme's detailed directions all the way, apart from a self-indulgent forest-bashing shortcut on the way down. Dewey Donald top is the bump a few yards further on. Benchmark on railway bridge too.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 30th August 1949 costing 22.16s.4d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NS83/17 within the Lanark block during 1950. Levelled for height to Class 2 precision also in 1950. Last maintained by OS in June 1977. SITE VISIT: Parking available at NT038086 by entrance to forest though a small bridge under the railway just off the B7076. Head north then follow mapped forest tracks to NT028097. Unmapped path by felled area climbs west to boundary fence on ridge. Follow fence round to trig point. Pillar on wooded side of boundary fence, the boundary is clear of trees. Column in good condition, but lines in concrete show that the top surface will start to separate soon. Spider retains original OS centre cap with deep indented lettering. Flush bracket faces south, compass measurement 179, away from fence. Back (north) sighting hole open, others plugged. Half panoramic view centred on north, southern aspects blocked by adjacent woods.
