We visited Sulber and Moughton on an 11-mile circuit from Austwick, in full winter conditions. Walking over the top of the limestone clints and grykes, with a foot of snow underfoot and almost whiteout visibility led to a few falls and scrapes along the way, not to mention almost falling off the quarry edge at Moughton Nab. Wonderful day out all the same. The Moughton pillar was a real compass job to find in the conditions, as it is a fair distance from the wall. It is missing its cap, but otherwise looking in good condition. I imagine there are magnificent views from it...

4/4 pillars visited today and completed a very fine days walking and exploring. This pillar capped it off perfectly with sweeping views of Crummock Dale surrounded by a breathtaking limestone landscape. Luckily I got off the hills before dark and finished last few miles back to Clapham without a headtorch. Oops!! All four pillars are gifted to limestone and the diversity of plant and wildlife it attracts.

Parked up in Horton and crossed through the train stations onto the 3 Peaks path heading to Ingleborough. After a mile took the FP to Austwick where the pillar could just be made out on the top of the far hill. Followed the path to the cove then headed upwards using the myriad of sheepwalks and limestone stepping stones. Just below the grouse butts the limestone ended and it was simple grass path up to the summit. Excellent views all around. Simply retraced route back to Horton and a beer in The Golden Lion.

limestone pavement, very nice , came up from helwith bridge where that HUGE quarry is, up the lefthand side of the pit to the scar at the top- took a bit of a direct route up it! the rest of the route was a bit safer...

Flush bracket S5230 was levelled for height also in 1951. This trig point was last maintained by the OS in June 1976. Limestone loose and fixed everywhere.
