From the summit down steeply on the usual ascent path but veered off to the right near the bottom to avoid cows

Up here from Blacklunans then over the top to descend to find the road to Cray where the fine little church of the 1840's is sadly boarded up. The pillar remains cracked all round at the FB level; one sight hole open, and no cap. Fantastic views : could easily see Ben Nevis and Schiehallion among the 40 Munros visible today. Unfortunately, there was a powerfully strong smell of chemical spray presumably blown up here on the breeze from the farms below. Let's hear it for organic farming!

This triangulation pillar marked secondary station 14 in Secondary Block NO46, Forfar. Construction of this pillar was completed on 27th June 1952. Today this pillar is badly cracked through at flush bracket height, and it is only a matter of time before it topples in a high wind. It is still upright due to gravity as the break seems to be lower in the centre of the pillar than round most of the external faces. The spider has been robbed of its OS cap leaving the centre open. Only the left sighting hole remains plugged and the inside of the pillar has been filled with debris dropped in through the open top. The flush bracket faces NNW. Ignoring the mobile phone mast, this top enjoys excellent views to many other hills in all directions. Ascended and decended via routes on different east shanks. Car park at NO182639. Photographed 30/09/2006, GRP.

As an antidote to the metalwork, there is now a new viewpoint indicator , which compliments the big cairn and is a very clear rendering of the BIG VIEW. Trig is cracked at base and ready to topple.
