Lay-by parked on Chain Bar Lane with a very short road walk to take a right into Shutt Nook Farm. Politely asked Mr Farmer who was in his big blue tractor if I was OK to pass his way who, declaring it a ROW, told me the trig was infact his neighbours & to follow the track passing thro' several heavy gates, climb a stile & 'head' across a triangular field to the far right corner...Damn I left my chainsaw at home was my initial thought getting to this one, for stepping over the stile in pursuit of the trig which seemed the obvious way to go was nigh on impossible without one, the way forward completely barred by a decade or more's growth of unmanaged entanglement. Stepping onto the stile to take a peek o'er the wall in hope of a sighting in the neighbouring field, oh what joy as I looked right & there it was right beside me. Abutted by walls on both sides & hidden somewhat by foliage from above, the trig was infact right by the stlie. Initial joy was almost instantly wiped out as a second damn surfaced, i'd left my upside down periscope at home for that's what i'd need to see the flush bracket in the adjacent field. Unable to walk around the trig, not something I normally do I did stand on top of it & that was good enough for me. There's something about these sort'a 'wall 'trigs' 'hedge trigs'...I often wonder which came first the chicken or the hedge., must've been the chicken & whilst difficult to find, there's so much satisfaction in having done so even if you do, as is so often the case with them, leave cut up to shreds. Bringing me onto my third & final damn, I still haven't ordered that chainmail suit.

A revisit for me and pillar #49 for my little trigbagger. We had to use the footpath to the west to approach this one - the closer path was full of large cattle. I'd agree with the previous poster - the landowner does seem to want to discourage walkers here. The pillar is on a ROW, but both the access stiles to the field were broken or obstructed, and the cattle had been corralled towards the main access point. Regardless, we made it easily and without being approached by the cattle. Pillar is still adopted as part of the wall, and is now behind barbed wire; it's in fine condition though, still with an original cap.

Not that pleasant! Had to walk over a steaming pile of poo and through a poo bog to get to it! All good fun.

Followed the track up from the road to where the footpath turns left off the track opposite is a gate with a hugh pile of cow dung. After negotiating the pile in damp conditions from both above and below I came across the trig now part of the dry stone wall.

Accessible but not immediately visible as now forms part of the wall. I came up footpath (farm track) and over stile into field. Pillar only visible upon approaching the wall to the left. Fortunately flush bracket facing into field. No real outstanding views. Pillar in reasonable condition with original plug and indented lettering.

This trig point was difficult to find from the road to the south, as the footpath that leads uphill towards it was not marked. I eventually found it built into what looks like a freshly built stone wall. The last trig point of a 75-mile trip.
