Bit of an awkward one to photograph. Apart from being behind a fence with the FB on the wrong side, the verge between the fence and the road is very narrow and crumbling.

Annoyingly the pillar is captive. The compound is surrounded by high fence with barbed wire. On a busy corner in broad daylight so couldn’t properly case the location. Thinking about another visit at a quieter time. Revisited 2/9/23. Early morning. Could not see any gap at base of fence. Big heave ho, difficult. Phew. Good condition, fading whitewash, some view to west.

I really enjoyed reading the posts of those who logged before me! The fence is high but not insurmountable however, there were people at work just over the other side and I didn't want to risk it. You'd have to be pretty slim to get through available gaps. Be careful - the bank is soft and on a blind bend at that side.

On our last day of our journey from Devon to stay in Essex for the Mega event week, but noted that there was a trig point here as well as geocache based on the adjacent water tower = 2 for the price of 1! Apologies - site wont upload my photo, will try later TP fenced in with the water tower, unfortunately facing away from road so flush bracket could not be seen, but looked in good condition. Good countryside views.

This Trig is one of the nearest to my home and alas it is a prisoner. Incarcerated into a small compound shared with a water tower and various communications masts. The resulting pictures are attached showing that everything is in good order. In a way I guess that this "Life Sentence" behind 8ft chainlink fence and barbed wire is bizarrely helping to preserve this Trig. Ordnance Survey website details computing year as 1947 and height 78.958 metres (259.049 feet).

Same as most other comments, the pillar is enclosed by a tall fence, the ground being owned by a water company. The only way to get a good photo of the pillar is when someone from the water board is doing some maintenance, and he has the gates are open for access.

Against a fence inside a water tower compound. Three sides visible and touchable except, of course, the side with the FB so the number wasn't visible. I tried the 'camera on a stick' approach but couldn't get my tiny Ixus to fit through the wire fence. A small mirror on a stick should do the trick but I didn't have one to hand and my better half was at home otherwise I'd have commanderred hers.

So close you can touch it. Mountnessing
