Looks fine on map and aerial pics but like many others found this a wet old pain to get to, especially today. If you go wait until we have some fine weather for a week or so! Took wellies for this one and needed them! Flush Bracket, Spider in place cap gone and trig being covered in moss, no views at trig. Trees down in many places blocking/hiding paths but reachable. Take the longer route on tracks for a better experience or if you like torture use your map and compass like I did and go a more direct route! As Max used to say in Heart to Heart "It was murder!" Got there in the end though! Came back on the Wind farm tracks much easier.

Parked at Pen Pych for a three trig 12 mile hike around Blaenrhondda. Third trig of the day. Paths easy to find up from the car park to Mynydd Blaengwynfi. Quite a steep hike up. Then through wind farm to Craig Y Llyn. Over the Rhigos road and along Mynydd Tynewydd to the third and final one of the day. Off the road in a clearing. Quite boggy ground to get through. Good condition and FB intact.

3/3 from Porth (09.20), along high ground between Rhondda fach and fawr valleys, filthy day, gloomy wet drizzle. Final miles a fine example of industrialised environmental damage, extensive flattened slag tip, vast forestry monoculture, massed giant turbines and associated access roads. Pillar sits alone in secluded clearing in forestry, worth carrying gps to find it. Then took old track down hillside to Treherbert (15.10) for train back to Porth.

Took the footpath around the E of Foel Goch and once in forestry tracks to the plateau. Then spent three-quarters of an hour trying to find the pillar in a vast mass of dense conifers - the high spot of land may have been anywhere. Amazed we found it.

Muddy walk, had to fight our way through fallen trees and bushes that were blocking the path, walked up from the parking area called Ystradffernol on A4061. Nice views during the walk, but the trig itself is surrounded by trees.

Surrounded by trees. Very boggy and over grown RoW after it going to find Mynydd Bwllfa. Parked at Hendre'r Mynydd car park.

Parked in track entrance at SS932998. Followed the faint path opposite which heads steeply up the hill NNE to meet mapped track which curves around Foel Goch. Up to the waterfalls where there's no sign of the mapped right of way so had to follow the circuitous forestry track which eventually leads to the trig. On the way back I short-circuited the path around Foel Goch by heading very steeply downhill SSW back to the parking spot.

A tricky one to get to indeed, in particular if you chose my route!. Well, I guess there are a number of ways to approach this trig and then there is the way I approached - through the trees. I had been walking south along the ridge on the wind-farm tracks when the track ran out which meant a tough walk on very uneven ground. That then rejoined a wind-farm track. I then missed the footpath down to the trig as it it somewhat overgrown and a tree fallen across it and ended up approaching via the mast. There is no track between the mast and the trig so its again a case of heading over uneven boggy ground before emerging near the trig.

Did an 8 mile round for this and Mynydd Bwllfa over rough wet tussocky grass, through conifer plantation, and through wind farm. Nasty walk. Pillar very mossy but seems in good condition. No top cap or plug; RHS sight hole open. Located in a large clearing in conifers.

Parked at SN92472018 and tried to follow path at first left to make a circular walk but this was impassible today. Took footpath (read stream) at SN9396200219 to trig at junction of firebrakes.

Trigpooint The trigpoint sits on the edge of a Bronze Age Cairn. It is 10.4m in diameter and 0.6m high. It has been excavated creating a central hollow 2.5m accross. Known as Garn Bica or Garn Fach but as Y Carn Bica on the map.
