The famous 'water tower' progress seems to have stalled. A fence round the site excludes access to the pillar but it can be reached through the fence, the flush plate is on the only face not visable.

I did not visit the trig this time, but I want to draw attention to the fact that the nearby water tower is being turned into a house and the pillar may well soon end up in a garden.

Amazing that a reservoir/water tower complex should have an opening gate entrance! To cap it all, there was even a Port-a-loo there! Useful if you've just had a pub lunch and a pint of 'Abbot'! The pillar has its original plug with slightly-indented letters [actually, it felt quite oily which was strange as there was no oil or any other liquid on it]. All sightholes below ground level. Quite a lot of white paint and patches had peeled to reveal the red-sandstone underneath. No views at all from here due to the hedges and tower.
