I agree with a previous logger that the track to approach this one isn't quite as marked on the map but it is still easy enough to get to. I would see the combines working hard in the fields below.

After walking from Melkington to Cramondhill along the Muggers Loan we retraced our steps then carried on the short distance to New Heaton. The map shows the track cutting directly east to the corner of the plantation New Hearton TP is situated in - however the track skirts NE round the side of the hill following the Oxdean Burn before ascending SSE up the field edge to the plantation. Not realising this we made a direct line for the TP across the (trackless) field but returned following the track. The New Heaton TP should offer much the same view as Cramondhill, they being so close together; however being a wee bit higher potentially should offer a better view, but being in a plantation actual has a more limited view. Curious as to why these two TPs are so closely located.

Pillar leaning to the west which can be clearly seen when approaching through the tree belt from the north. Lousy weather so limited views although the tree belt gave a little shelter from the wind and rain.

Pillar in good condition but slightly off plumb, leaning forwards. Foundations probably being undermined by tree roots. Spider retains OS plug with deep indented lettering. Back sight hole open, others plugged. FB faces west ~265. Tertiary station in Block NT72, Jedburgh. Completed 27th March 1953. In the edge of a wooded strip. Pulished right of way is overgrown with crops but field is easily skirted around via north edges. Views to Cheviot, Eildon Mid Hill, Black Hill (NT72), Dirrington Great Law. Done in conjunction with neighbouring Cramondhill, parked in Donaldsons Lodge and walked up via Melkington road end. Photographed 2/10/2007, GRP.

First visit. To record FB number. HISTORY: Pillar completed 27th March 1953 costing 15.19s.6d. Compted as tertiary triangulation station NT72/T75 in 1957. Levelled for height in 1971. Last maintained by the OS in November 1986. SITE VISIT: Trig pillar in good condition. Spider retained OS centre cap with stamped lettering. In a wooded strip beyond arable land. At the time, this was my last S793* and a welcome addition filling a gap a run of consecutive FB numbers bagged by myself. This run has since been extended to S7376-S7420 and there is now potential to increase that further.

In west edge of Woodland. Had to take two goes at driving up approach road as it was very icy and we slid back down the hill the first time!
