Parked just outside Cornhill on the roadside and headed off along Mugger’s Loan. Was a bit worried, but didn’t see a single mugger. Bypassed Cramondhill trig and carried on to this one. Easy to follow track landed us on the summit beside the water tank. Pillar sits just beyond it in the wood. Views not too bad. Saw deer, hares, woodpecker, many pheasants and some partridge. My second visit, different route, this time short walk west from the public road to New Heaton Farm along the bridleway, then into the plantation and along to the TP, being guarded by a flock of what I can only describe as the ugliest sheep I have ever seen! Cramondhill TP easily seen to the west, and that’s where we headed next.

Parked in Cornhill on Tweed and walked up bridleway to trig field. Loads of sheep in field so only I ventured over for pictures. We then carried on along Mugger's Loan, then to New Heaton trigpoint, we then had a short distance along the road and pick up the track again. A lady at Harper Ridge came out into her garden to thank us for using the footpath across the field as her husband tries to walk it as much as possible to 'keep it open'. Then another short distance along the road to pick up the track to the river and then back to Cornhill. A lovely circular walk.

A nice walk along Muggers Loan from Cornhill taking in Cramondhill first.Pillar is leaning slightly. Still retains a good coat of white paint. Lovely views to the west, very limited to the east due to the woodland. An arrow on the gatepost at 882406 shows the path is indeed routed across the grassy field rather than along the continuation of the track eastwards.

Ample parking at nt888418. Passed about 6 tractors and a harvester along the country minor roads to reach this parking spot. Easy walk WSW along bridleway. This trig is situated within the wooded copse. Well protected and still with a flush of white paint this pillar commands great views west. Spider intact. Wheat fields in abundance and at their best on this the longest daylight of the year.

After walking from Melkington to Cramondhill along the Muggers Loan we retraced our steps then carried on the short distance to New Heaton. The map shows the track cutting directly east to the corner of the plantation New Hearton TP is situated in - however the track skirts NE round the side of the hill following the Oxdean Burn before ascending SSE up the field edge to the plantation. Not realising this we made a direct line for the TP across the (trackless) field but returned following the track. The New Heaton TP should offer much the same view as Cramondhill, they being so close together; however being a wee bit higher potentially should offer a better view, but being in a plantation actual has a more limited view. Curious as to why these two TPs are so closely located.

Last maintained by the OS in November 1986. SITE VISIT: Trig pillar in good condition. Spider retained OS centre cap with stamped lettering. In a wooded strip beyond arable land. At the time, this was my last S793* and a welcome addition filling a gap a run of consecutive FB numbers bagged by myself. This run has since been extended to S7369-S7420 and there is now potential to increase that further.
