Glorious day for Trigpointing. First one of the year. Easy access from the road - and not many pillars come complete with a picnic table. Just right for a spot of lunch!

Routine bag from the road. Had just spent a cosy half hour sheltering in the nearby church porch to the west out of 'Gertrude's' wind and rain. Approaching 18 miles on my feet by now.

Accessed by the very convenient gate just down from the trig. A stunning spot on this beautiful winter's day with fantastic views towards the Black Mountains. Trig in good condition although it does have a stencil of a barking dog and a hand grenade on it for some reason!! (There were no barking dogs or handgrenades nearby!! :D )

The pillar stands next to a fence between fields grazed by horses on a high ridge between Usk and Chepstow. In places the foundations of the pillar are exposed by up to four inches; it has a metal cap with shallow lettering and has FB S/3341. A public footpath enters the adjacent field from a ridge top road. You can park nearer but I chose to walk down from the church. The trig has good views taking in the Severn Estuary and its bridges to the south. Chepstow Park Wood lies to the east. The ridge continues to St Peterís Church to the west and there is a broad picturesque valley the other side of the road to the north.
