Bagged during a circular eight mile hike with Dearne Valley Walking Group, starting from the village of Millington in the Yorkshire Wolds. Pleasant views along the course of the walk and at the site of the pillar which sits near the top of a small amongst three mature trees. The pillar is in generally good condition, but the centre of the spider has been replaced with a concrete like substance.

I embarked on a round of 9 extant pillars in the southern Wolds with this cracker. I parked up on Cobdale Lane just up from the ROW and the pillar is visible from the road - it sits on a small grassy hillock between a couple of trees, just inside the field. The gate was open and there were no crops or livestock to disturb so access was a doddle. The pillar is weathered and has a replacement cap, but has some decent views - it's a lovely little spot to visit.

The objective for today - drive from Alnwick to Coventry and bag one Trig Point in each county we pass through en-route. Planned a route to take in 14 Trigs in 14 different counties. This was #6 of 14 and although it was one of the better TPs of the day it was logistically a major miscalculation. Given our tight schedule anything more than a few minutes from being a 'roadside' would be a luxury, anything too far from the A19-A1-M18-M1-M42 would also be problematic. This met the first criteria splendidly but the diversion off our main route and the godawful traffic around York cost us far too much time, so we didn't linger - would be an excellent TP to stop and have a leisurely picnic at with such glorious weather and equally impressive views E. As ever, 'Greenbell' below describes it far more eloquently than I can.
