Took me quite a long few minutes to locate this one, but then spotted a beaten-down entry into the gorse and there it was. It looks like a children's den within, with a crate-cum-seat and sweet wrappers scattered around. The pillar has its cap (all five pillars visited today pleasingly have their caps) with deep lettering, and I think only one sight-hole open.

Parked alongside cottage at NJ 9002 2493 and thru' gate adjacent. Trig symbol not accurate on map - trig slightly to SW - in high point of gorse as per thejackrussels' log (many thanks). Access now improved - into gorse at NJ 90021 25158

Expecting this to be much worse. Parked at field entrance and walked up track then onto farmer's rubble and dump heap, a tad up and down and worried for my ankles. Couldn’t see trig but spotted high point in gorse. Found a way in and out not to bad and somehow managed to loose my wee Eevee hat ;-( Took worst flush bracket picture ever too!

A nightmare of gorse 7ft high well embedded but liberated from its green spiky prison from the south, I eventually found out.

I'd given up on this one; top now has plenty of rubble farmer has dumped after removing from fields. Driving away saw someone and asked about trig - they gave me good info on where to look.

Pillar completed 15th August 1952. Tertiary station in Block NK03, Peterhead. Pillar in VGC, but in the middle of gorse. Spider retains original OS centre plug with deep stamped lettering. Flush bracket faces NE. RHS sighting hole open, others plugged. Empty grass top possibly used for grazing. Gorse had to be butchered for photography. 2 gates to climb.

S6729 - Newcraig pillar & FB
