From cattle grid car park (NT 8939 2802), a round of hills culminating (almost) in Newton Tors. Difficult access taken coming off The Bell and ascending Newton Tors from NT 9005 2822 following the fenceline up only diverting off to take a look at Wester Tor. Steep, difficult, not recommended. Pillar retains an original centre cap, deeply indented lettering; RHS sight hole open. Extensive views, but broad flatish summit area detracts.

Our 2nd of 2 trigs today. The long summer hours of daylight allowed us the opportunity to walk from Humbleton Car Park, taking in Gains Law, Yeavering Bell, Eastor Tor and this magnificent pillar at Newton Tors. 360 degree views consisting Cheviot, Millfield Plain,North Sea and Scotland. Wild mountain goats, songbirds and wild flowers. Another epic. Followed by a meal and real ale in Wooler.

K Ascended from Hethpool via waterfall and Torleehouse FP (start from Old Yeavering for a slightly shorter walk). FPs marked by quad tracks followed to Easter Tor where Dad stopped looking at the view, while I continued on to Wester Tor and summit trig. Trig is on a boggy flat top bypassed by the FP with guardian pools for the unwary. Family groups of feral goats and silent apart from bird song. Breezy day clouding over.

Start point at Old Yeavering, farm track then St Cuthbert's Way footpath before a good climb up on a very hot and humid day. Diverted off to bag Easter Tor on way up, returned the way we'd come, though there are plenty of excellent possibilities for more circular or extended walks than this one. The tors on top of the hill offer more interest than the flat, boggy summit plateau that the TP sits on, but excellent views especially north across the borders.

Parked at Humbleton and did 17km circuit: Humbleton hillfort, Gains Law trig, Wester Tor, Easter Tor, Yeavering Bell hillfort, White Law and back to Humbleton. Glorious sunny day with huge views across Cheviot and the Millfield Plain. Some small snow patches to cross and a bit of heather bashing, but overall a grand day out trigging and looking at the prehistoric landscape. Couple of wild goats crossed our path on the way down, then a pair of roe deer.
