Log #321. Parked at gate at roughly NS245477, then straightforward walk up to the mast compound. Incredibly easy to visit the pillar - countless loose spars plus and an entire section of fence is missing around the NW side of the compound. Would go sooner rather than later if you haven't been there already, can't be that long until they realise the entire fence needs replaced. [ExP-231/MiP-26/Rev-2/BM-21/IS-31/Other-10]

Pillar looked to be in good condition. Had a wee walk round the compound but no way to access, all spars now repaired. A bit hazey but still good views in all directions.

Vgc condition pillar with minor ding to the south-east-ish top corner. FB faces south-ish with the east-ish sighthole open only. Cap missing and no plug. The pillar stands within a secure compound but there is a gap in the fence to the left and right of the entrance gate. Easy to get into (assuming you're not too big!). Amazing views along the Ayrshire coast and across to Arran. Also, excellent intervisibility with a lot of nearby trigs and even as far as the new Whitelee windfarm!

Two new bars have been added to the right of the gate, presumably since agentmancuso's visit (unless he is extremely thin). At present there is a way in for thin folks (i got in with small rucksack still on my back) a little way down to the left where one bar is missing. Cloudbase was about 200m this afternoon so I missed out on a decent view.

Got in! Being skinny has its advantages - managed to squeeze through the fence just to the right of the gate. A reward for turning down that extra helping of xmas pudding. Cap gone, painted grey on one side only. A decent circuit via nearby cache and on to hill fort. Windfarm not marked on my LR63.

No sign of clochandighters means of access ! Seems to require either a spade (depending on depth of concrete may be able to tunnel) or else long ladder or third way which I will keep to myself for now.

This TP is unreachable by appx. 30mtrs due to the fact that the area is protected by a high security fence protecting communications masts(see pics) so was unable to read FB It should however, be one of the best protected in the country!! Good views all round from this location esp. E. towards the central belt.

Visited to record FB number. HISTORY: Pillar completed 29th July 1948 costing 5.13s.6d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NS04/T5 within mainland area of Secondary Block NS04, Isle of Arran during 1956. Levelled for height in 1969. Last maintained by the OS in July 1978. SITE VISIT: Trig pillar in very good condition, as it is fairly well protected from vandals. The spider retains it original stamped font OS plug. The flush bracket faces southeast. North Hill is in the Knockewart Hills two miles east of West Kilbride. The trig pillar and summit of this hill are inside a secure compound housing a comms mast. No notices to inform who the mast belongs to. The perimeter fence is OTT given the remoteness of the location and made access extremely difficult. North Hill can be accessed via the neighbouring hills from the west or via the private road built for the comms mast from the southeast. Photographed on a foggy 22/10/1996, before the front face of the pillar was painted grey as seen in DeputyDawg's photographs.
