One of two trigs bagged during a 12.3 mile hike starting from Barden Bridge, visiting Bolton Abbey, Valley Of Desolation, the waterfall and Simons Seat. This was the first. An interesting and varied hike with great views all the way round including those from the site of this trig. A small amount of concrete has broken away from the top of the pillar, most noticeable on one corner. The centre cap for the spider is also missing.

I'd intended to park by the river over Braden Bridge but it was Easter Saturday and no places were left - I had a look at Bolton Abbey car park but turned back at the £8 sign - I finally found at spot next to the telephone box at Braden Tower - not a good start. After the North Nab pillar Keith's route takes you along nearly 3 miles of moorland tracks to Simon's Seat. Last maintained by the OS in August 1986. SITE VISIT: Approached from SW. Parked in makeshift layby, west side of B6160 on bend at SE070553. Everywhere nearer is either 'parking prohibited' or double yellow lines. The mapped parking would have been £7 but the barrier had closed at 6pm, not that I'd have paid that or parked there had it been open. My route of approach was a near direct line crossing the estate fields and bridge, then onto the RoW up through Bolton Park Farm and onto access land. Grazing top. Pillar in fair condition, cracked and chipped near top, trunk good. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces west, ~275°. Vented through north sight hole. Full 360° panoramic view. UPDATE: I see a 'one trig wonder' has visited this website (in duplicate) to respond to my comment solely to defend the £7 parking charge for 'services not required' for trigging purposes. I doubt they even went to the trig. UPDATE: I see from later logs that the parking racket has been increased to £12.50!

I was knackered here, my 3rd out of 4 for today, so spent time to look around. I could "see" loads of other trig points from here and it gives you a good connection with the landscape. My picture "shows" the trigs of Beamsley Beacon (on the hill directly behing this trig. The ridge in the back has Overgate Croft Farm and Rombalds Moor on it.

Poor weather today, a mist hung over everywhere with the result that the views were non-existant (hence the score). Photo's of the trig are simply that. The trig itselt is OK-ish but the edges of the top are a little damaged - still has the original spider though.
