A variation on the "difficult" walk described poorly on the Bolton Abbey site took us to North Nab first. (Get over the eight quid parking. See later.) A spot of culture at the Abbey, then excitement crossing the stepping stones (trying desperately not to get stuck in a metaphor), before a lovely route up through Bolton Park. Good views. Fantastic day. On to Simon's Seat.

Walk taken from 'Yorkshire Dales Trigpointing Walks'. Paths indistinct after leaving the side of the conifer plantation. Great views. Just skylarks for company. Not be getting sunburned today. I'd intended to park by the river over Braden Bridge but it was Easter Saturday and no places were left - I had a look at Bolton Abbey car park but turned back at the 8 sign - I finally found at spot next to the telephone box at Braden Tower - not a good start. After the North Nab pillar Keith's route takes you along nearly 3 miles of moorland tracks to Simon's Seat. Looking back I think it may have been better to have retraced my steps and walked up The Valley of Desolation to Simon's Seat.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 10th May 1949 costing 11.14s.11d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station SD96/T35 in during 1951. Levelled for height also in 1951. Last maintained by the OS in August 1986. SITE VISIT: Approached from SW. Parked in makeshift layby, west side of B6160 on bend at SE070553. Everywhere nearer is either 'parking prohibited' or double yellow lines. The mapped parking would have been 7 but the barrier had closed at 6pm, not that I'd have paid that or parked there had it been open. My route of approach was a near direct line crossing the estate fields and bridge, then onto the RoW up through Bolton Park Farm and onto access land. Grazing top. Pillar in fair condition, cracked and chipped near top, trunk good. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces west, ~275. Vented through north sight hole. Full 360 panoramic view. UPDATE: I see a 'one trig wonder' has visited this website in response to my comment solely to defend the 7 parking charge for 'services not required' for trigging purposes. I doubt they even went to the trig
