My Norfolk nemesis bagged!! Tried in 2019 and failed then thrashed around in brambles and nettles for twenty minutes this morning - nothing. Then I paused, thought about it, and two more minutes of thrashing turned up the goods. Was it worth it- definitely.

The brambles are really taking over now. Walked from the old trailer, parked by the gate to the sewage works. Something a bit eerie about walking through an old air force base with all the roads and kerbs in place but no buildings.

From the Karting centre, saw no signs, and met nobody. Had a bit of trouble finding the pillar as it’s already reduced height is now being buried by brambles. The tracks around show evidence of off-road motor bikes and this along with all the rubble make the whole place seem a bit sad.

On edge of the site of former RAF North Pickenham (1944-67) which had a varied life as a WWII USAF heavy bomber station, home of 220 Sqn operating Thor nuclear missles, and for testing what would become the Harrier. Pillar has a partial build up of soil and vegetation around it covering lower level of the FB - needed to dig down to reveal it. Original cap in place, deeply indented lettering; front, rear and RHD side sight holes closed, the LHD side one is below ground level so not determined.
