The pillar stands in a grassy field on top of a hill to the southeast of Beaminster. It has a metal cap with deep lettering and FB S5512. The trig was visited as part of a circular walk on tracks and bridleways from Mapperton in the north. The pillar was reached from the track to the northeast; passing through a couple of gates and crossing a field. The site has a fine view of the surrounding round green hills of West Dorset with higher ridges on the horizon. The Rampisham masts can be seen to the northeast and Lyme Bay to the south. My walk passed through some exceptionally pretty countryside. There were a couple of stiff climbs and three fords to negotiate. My route took me through parts of the Mapperton and Poorton Vales SSSI.
