What a sad sight. Stuck in a hedge in wasteland. It was well hidden by nettles, that is until my walking pole was wielded. I managed to get to the other side of the trig in order to see the fb. But I didn't stay long. On to my final one of the day at Norristhorpe.

First visited nearly 18 years ago, but been passed many times since then. Today was a visit to celebrate National Tig a Trig Day. Area around the trig still a dumping area for all kinds of waste. Came up from Ravensthorpe railway station mainly along old disused railway lines. NCOF!

I parked up on Jill Lane and walked up the track and then up the ROW to the pillar. It sits on the wrong side of a wire fence, in a (now trimmed) hedgerow, in a rough patch of waste ground - there were smouldering, smoking piles of rubbish and rubble on my visit. It was like some post-apocalyptic warzone, rain thrashing down, fog, the works. The pillar is easily accessible, in fine condition with an original cap and has good views to the east. I returned the same way.

Parked at the bottom of Jill lane on a short track that leads up to gate were trig is. Trig is in great condition with all its metal works. Sadly it sits in an hedge and is surrounded by what looks like a building site dumping ground, not any great views to talk about

(1821) Drove up Jill Lane and parked at the houses towards the top. Short walk from there to the pillar. The area itself is a bit of a dumping ground, alas. Pillar in fence line that's overgrown, but all relevent parts was visible, and its condition is surprisingly good. An unispiring location for sure, but an easy pillar to bag all told. Pillar history: Built on the 3rd of June 1947, at a cost of £8 14s 8d. Last maintained by the OS in July of 1986.

Fairly impressive navigation from my co-trigger gets me this one. Having parked just near Norristhorpe trig decide to do a walk to find this one. Not an area of West Yorks I know too well despite often planning to have a wander on the many train journeys up to Leeds over the years. Cleckhuddersfax looks quite exciting on the skyline and this green space is wild and fascinating. Very attractive Limousins...

Hard to locate, the ground around this one is used to tip building hardcore. The pillar is overgrown with brambles, we had to cut away some of the growth to access the plate

A much better outing than expected. Parked at Thornhill Lees and walked W along the Long Cut from the Calder. Picked up the dismantled railway line which made a pleasant walk, crossing the Calder and running adjacent to Dewsbury Country Park. Came off the line W of Dewsbury Moor after which the pillar played a bit of hide and seek with us. The reality is that there are many more paths than are shown on the OS map. Locating Lakeside equestrian centre was the key after which a track runs W and veers S to the trig. The location was not as expected although there are muck piles I found it a quite oasis amidst the urbanity. Pillar in good condition and can be tigged easily, FB faces the path but was overgrown with nettles. OS plug intact. Best view SSW to Thornhill Edge and E to Dewsbury. My next trig plans are on this year's backpacking adventure beginning end of June - the Howgills and the Lakes.

(1) easy to locate near to electricity pylon, pillar is over a wire fence, views across to mirfield parish church, also lots of evidence around of the former railway lines one of which now forms part of the spen valley greenway cycle route

Another easy bag, drove almost all the way to it, which was a bonus as my arthritic knees were giving me hell after having to jump down off the wall at Bramley reservoir. One of the horses in the field was using the trig as a scratching post, nice to see it still has a use of some sort anyway.

My earliest memory of Trig Points is this one. On walks with my Grandad he used to tell me Fairies lived inside and if I knocked on the door (the Flush Bracket) they might appear.

Came up from Ravensthorpe railway station, This was the first on a 22 mile 6 trig tigathon. An unassuming trig that I actually walked straight past without seeing initially. Not a lot of anything really - solely a trig tig to be honest. Of late we've had little rain and the path was very dry today - the farmer must have sold all his cow s**t since John's visit!!

Approached from the South, very wet and muddy. Quite a nice rural area surrounded by urban sprawl. I think the local farmer has cornered the market for cowmuck.

Approached from north; quiet grassy lane with numerous tortoiseshell butterflies. Trig with plug intact, just over fence next to a former railway line.
